1989 Plymouth Grand Voyager LE 3.0 V6 startup/walkaround

What a beauty. I'm thrilled to see that this one is still alive. We had a sky blue 1988 Dodge Grand Caravan LE back in the '90s. My parents bought the van used in April 1993 while my Mom was pregnant with me. It started off as her van while my Dad drove a 1980 Ford F-150 Custom long bed. I was brought home from the hospital in the Caravan in August 1993. At that time, we were living in Canoga Park, California until the Northridge earthquake in January 1994. In June 1996, we moved back to California after spending two years living with my grandmother in Douglas County, Georgia. Back then, we still had our '88 Grand Caravan. In 1997, it became my Dad's van when my Mom bought a brand new dark green Dodge Grand Caravan SE. My dad drove the '88 Caravan to and from work very often. Then, in January 1999, we were on our way back home to Simi Valley, California after attending my oldest sister's wedding in Las Vegas. All of the sudden, the van breaks down in a small town of Barstow, California. My Dad had the van towed and it took us another two hours to get home. As we made it back home safe, the mechanic told my Dad that the van needed a new engine. Instead, my Dad sold the van and bought a blue 1998 Dodge Neon Sport 4 door. I haven't been in a first generation Chrysler minivan ever since.

I love these first gen facelifted Caravans/Voyagers from 1987-1990. The squared off front end with the aerodynamic headlights make this vehicle in my opinion. If i was you, i would clean it up, buff and wax it, and then fix the front end cosmetics to make it mint again. So few of these are left out in the wild that it's your job as caretaker to bring it back to life. I grew up in this generation where these vans were EVERYWHERE on the roads. Everyone on every block had one of these vans and this is the nicer LE with the woodgrain siding to boot.

Yeah I've gotta so many compliments from people about this van! I plan on fixing it up and keeping the miles down just it's hard sometimes just because of that R title. Insurance companies hate that for some reason especially since the previous owner hit a deer. But I plan to keep this one nice and lower millage. Gonna get the rust fixed on it here soon! Thanks!!

@@mr.c9774 The rebuilt title could be changed back to a normal title if you follow the repair procedures for your state to certify the vehicle has been repaired to their standards. I would do that. If you're going to fix it anyhow, why not go the extra mile to have it certfied back to a normal title? I would keep the original radio as most collectors like me want to see things like that. If not installed, keep it with the van so if someday you sell it, that radio will go with it. Glad to see it's in good hands.

I'm putting a 1990 back together with 96,000 miles. I'd post pictures if we could. Pulled a bunch of parts off a cargo Caravan with 31,000 mi. The engine wasn't maintained on the cargo so it broke down is in the salvage yard.

Nice. I also got two 1st gens stored, one has only 49k miles (converted from KM). Also both are three leakers w. 41te's. Yours starts up quicker than mine does, interesting.
