i remember listening to 252 on a camping holiday in France around 98/99. peugeot 405 parked up with the door open to receive a better signal.

Used to come into Sheffield loud & clear until around the late evening where there would be some interference until the early hours when they began 24 hour transmission. I remember listening to the first day and the station closing at 7pm each day, suggesting turning over to Radio Luxembourg for the evening.

I remember once on a annual social club trip to Skegvegas using some of my pocket money to buy a cheap "Fortune 🤔" brand MW/LW radio from a variety store so that I could carry on listening while I was away from my radio cassette recorder at home. I think the radio lasted almost as long as Atlantic 252 did!!

By 1989, listening on LW was a dying past time, and many new radio's back then were AM/FM only but despite all that, Atlantic was hugely popular.

RTE Radio 1 on 252 Long Wave is closing down on the 14th April 2023 after 34 years in service the Mast will be turned off.

This was a way for CLT-RTL get rid of Radio Luxembourg MW SW and Astra Satellite, and concentrate efforts on Ireland beamed across the UK.

I think Atlantic 252 would have picked up a ton of listeners p1ssed off what was happening over at Radio 1 in the Bannister years, when the wünderkind helped it lose about 15 million listeners!! 👍
