Huge shoutout to Nicola Materazzi, the man that almost single handedly designed this car (and a lot of other Ferrari, from the gto to the Testarossa). From the engine, to the gear box, to the air intakes, almost everything of this car was produced by his mind. A real genius throwed away by the Fiat management.

@christophercatto71845 жыл бұрын
indeed. the GTO Evo had poor drag coefficient so Materazzi asked for a different shape to be drawn and wind tunnel tested for the F40. a lot of the intakes, vents, the 3rd middle pipe for the wastegate, the very light interior are his ideas. the car got criticised for a number of things which happened because after he left nobody implemented things like the option of different size seats or on-track training which Enzo had agreed would have been offered. Fiat simply pocketed the money and made many more than originally planned.

I remember seeing a very old video filmed from the cockpit of a car - my memory is saying it was an F40 - going flat out, 200mph, on a regular highway/autobahn/motorway/whatever. Seeing how quickly it approached and passed regular traffic - traffic that would have been moving at 60-80mph probably - was downright scary. Literally no margin for error at that speed.

David Lee has some pretty impressive Ferraris in his Collection. Jay in another episode of JL'sG drove David's 275GTB 4 cam. Born in Hong Kong and son of Chinese Immigrants, he took his Father's Jewelry business to another Elite level and made him wealthy enough to be able to own 12+ million dollars worth of Ferraris. 26 yrs is an eternity in the Auto World when talking technology. Back in the 60's if your Car could reach 60mph in under 6 seconds, that was considered a muscle car. This F40 was something in the low 4 second range back in the 90's which now days is a turtle when compared to even the ZO6 Corvette which is in the high 2's with the 8 speed auto. I'm not a fan of Computerized Super Cars so the F40 is still really an old school Car. I'm sure now that Jay has driven his first F40 he will probably be looking for one to add to his massive Car Collection, Good Luck Jay...
@arisgod27498 жыл бұрын
I think Jay is warming up to the idea that his collection needs a Ferrari. An F40 would be a car that he could obtain. Expensive but not as rare as say a Ferrari 288 GTO which for me would be the ultimate Ferrari to own (other than the original GTO and Ferrari California from the 60s). David should make Jay drive the 288 GTO, I think Jay will love it.

Spokane Wa 1994 my uncle Jason RIP picked me up from fifth grade in a yellow 308 gts Ferrari. Spokane is a smaller city for sure, probably 250k Population back then. Not known for any exotic cars, it was amazing he had one. And many others porsche, lotus, lamborghini. My uncle had them all, not at once, just trade in/upgrade. However I always got to ride in the exotics. I got more seat time then anyone, besides Jason himself. Acura NSX, Dodge Viper, hot rods, muscle cars. So I got bit at a early age and still have the sickness. The 308 was awesome and I'll never forget the smiles per gallon and thumbs up. RIP uncle Jason and thanks for the memories. I haven't seen a Ferrari in Spokane to this day. They recently built a Porsche dealership in liberty lake, that is about it. Now the population has doubled and someone could probably do well opening a car lot for these cars, a smaller lot of course. CDA idaho not far and the "Celebrities" are buying up vacation homes on lake CDA to the dismay of locals. Anyway, love the channel Jay Leno thanks for sharing these legendary card, truly entertaining in a time of negativity and nothing but crap on TV.

I used to have one just like it back when I was younger. Mine was exactly the same color, had the same wheels and tires, but was much lighter than this one, in fact it was so light I could just pin it to the wall in my bedroom when not in use.

I like Jay so much and I LOVE how respectful he is of other people's cars, he wouldn't even touch it until David said he could. Unlike other people like Doug DeMuro

He stated, several times in several videos, that while they were good cars, he really didn't want to buy a Ferrari. He very strongly dislikes the way the dealerships and the company in general treats its clients. His actual preferences are very obvious seeing what he actually buys: Porsche, Lamborghini (the old ones), McLaren (all of them, even the SLR), and a ton of older collector/vintage cars such as Bugattis.

Here is the only thing you need to know about this car… I have been listening to Jay talk about cars on various formats for over 20 years now. He has a wonderful collection of cars he owns and he has driven and shared his experiences with countless other cars. This is the most excited I have ever seen Jay driving a car…ever.

Absolutely beautiful, as all Ferraris are! I was very fortunate to have been able to drive two of my boss's Ferraris to the dealership in Chicago for warranty service many years ago. On one of the trips the dealer had both a F40 and F50 in the shop for service. What a treat to have been able to get a close look at these two classics!! Thanks for the memories Jay and Dave!

I'd happily give up socks to be able to drive a F40, any day, anywhere. I'm grateful that I get to see and hear cars like this on KZbin, vehicles I'd never get to see in the wild, on a street in real life. I don't live in LA, I live in New Zealand at the bottom of the world, but I'm not complaining, it's a good life here, just not so many guys driving around in their F40s everyday, in fact we're a little short on most rare n collectable cars n bikes out n about around here but it's always a buzz when I see any. This is why Jay's channel, Doug DeMuro's etc are such a wonderful thing for guys like me so thanks to them all from the bottom of my heart, much appreciated.
