what cowl fitting setup did you use? I see the hose coming off the front to the evinrude fittings. I'm wondering what that fitting is on the lower cowl? I would love to get rid of the factory force fittings and do something like this. thanks for any info, if you remember, and part numbers or links? I have 3 gamefishers that I cant stand the factory fittings on...

That is a nice little outboard. I am possibly about to trade my 1953 12HP Sea King today for an '89 15HP Gamefisher and just had to check out a video of one in action... Thanks.

I have a 225 851508 which I believe is a 96' , the shaft is stuck in the powerhead. Any suggestions on how to get it out. Motor runs great, I should have done all this when I first got it. It started over heating, impeller was bad now shaft is stuck.

@ct17624 жыл бұрын
what happens when you pump the bulb while its running? if it picks up, rebuild the fuel pump. if not that, take apart the carb and rebuild it. test compression and spark. report back.

Wow. That thing has some get up and go. Lol. Why did you convert it back over to points?
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
Well the blue Prestolite electronic ignition coils are not very reliable and are very expensive and hard to find, (Mercury upgrade) so i convert them back to the older Chrysler system.

I'll try to get a video uploaded in the next couple of days. Basically, I get it idling really well but it seems to hesitate when I accelerate. I have been having gas tank venting problems and have a demand valve on order. Also, after running at WOT for 20-30 minutes, it inevitably fouls a plug. This leads me to believe im running too rich. Ill get a good set of plugs and the valve installed and make a video of how runs from start and then what it looks like when the plug fouls out. The motor is really too small for my boat but it will still plane with two people until the plugs foul. It bever dies just runs really rough under throttle.
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
yes that does sound like it is getting too much gas, is it just fouling one plug? Top or bottom? You might have a problem with the fuel pump.In all of my years i have only fouled a few spark plug's ever, and i always run heavy oil, 8/1 in my 1913 Evinrude.

I need help with my 1989 15hp gamefisher it wont start I put a new carb kit a new fuel pump kit and a Simi new flywheel
@sonofjabba10 жыл бұрын
Is this a common issue? I have one of these about the same vintage 89-90ish That I just tried starting that hasn't run since 1994 and no spark. It was dad's motor. I remember he had the ignition repaired at sears not long before it was stored. Also how much is involved in putting points back in it?
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
Yes it is a common problem with them 1990 was the 1st year for the electronic ignition, so pull your flywheel to see if it has the blue coils. What it takes to convert them back to the point's system is a older flywheel, points cam, and the mag off an older motor with the points system.
@JayzonH10 жыл бұрын
chrysleroutboarddude I just bought a pristine 1989 15. Has bad ignition. I saw the crank has a different part number and thought maybe it was not keyed same. So you are saying a earlier points cam will work on these 88-92 motors?
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
Yes it will.Yes it is a common problem with them 1990 was the 1st year for the electronic ignition, so pull your flywheel to see if it has the blue coils. What it takes to convert them back to the point's system is a older flywheel, points cam, and the mag off an older motor with the points system.

To bad your not around me I have this motor was working great now only gets spark on one cylinder and can’t find anyone to fix it order a coil on line it fits but it doesn’t look actually the same now no spark at all I thought any coil would work the same places around me say it’s to old and don’t want to fix it

Hi I have a question about a 15 hp gamefisher. I have a 1992 and have been having problems with the coils, which I have gathered that they are unreliable. I am mechanically inclined but am having trouble finding a way of fixing or finding an ignition system that can replace the coils. Do you have any suggestion or a part number to something I could use? Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi I have a motor very similar to this its a 87 gamefisher 15hp. Just got it running but I have 2 problems I can't figure out was thinking maybe you could help me out. First problem is I have replaced the impeller but the motor doesn't seem to pump water there is not water coming from the pee hole just exhaust. Some water is being pushed out of a small hole on the lower unit but I'm not sure if that means it pumping or not. Second is I cleaned the carb and now it seems to leak a little I didn't replace any parts just took it apart and cleaned it. Any suggestions?
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
HookAndLadderFishing Yea check to see if the vent hole is open in the water pump housing, but 90% of the time it's the where plate. www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=MERF341562As for the leak where is it leaking from?

when it's on the motor it's hard to tell could be the black rubber seal but that looks ok or possibly out the front. I'll give that a better look. I'll try the new wear plate also my impeller housing is a little pitted could that be causing a problem as well? I would like to buy a new housing but they are very expensive
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын

I've never seen anyone get these old motors dialed in as well as you do. I have a 75 Evinrude 25hp tiller that I just can't seem to get the carb adjusted right. Any tips or videos that would help? Great work and vids.
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
Well Thank you! It is very hard to tell you how i do it, i have been tuning them by ear for 30 years.Maybe you can make me a video of your motor so i can see what it is doing? I think that will help.
@KeyboardWarrior9510 жыл бұрын
Hiya, just a question that's had me thinking..... with all the different engines you have run, do you find much difference from one engine rated at 15hp to another 15hp? also, I have a '91 mariner 8hp, that if someone put the cowling of a 15hp on without me knowing, you wouldn't notice anything wrong?! is this common with outboards or what? Thanks :)
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
That is a good question.. The answer is yes, but it seems more like the biggest difference is motors with a lot of hour's and one's with low hours. AS far as swapping cowling's yes that does happen, but that is why there are model numbers. And just to let you know,, My motors that do not perform well do not get a video made of them.
@KeyboardWarrior9510 жыл бұрын
chrysleroutboarddude aha, thanks for replying! :) also, what do you think of the Johnson AT-10 5hp? I have the chance to buy one at the moment, would you go for it? thanks again, good to see you and pepper back on the water by the way! :D
@chrysleroutboarddude10 жыл бұрын
Well the AT-10 was a nice running motor, but most of them are worn out! That is a old motor the AT-10 is a 1940 model year.
