I always had soft spot for Jennifer when she first burst on the scene as a lil teenager... She had big expectations at a young tender age and I think that success sort of overwhelmed her... Much love to you Jennifer 💝

Thanks so much for posting! An error I noticed in this mini-documentary: Around 6:30 it is stated that Jennifer had never beaten anyone in the top 5 so far. This is incorrect. In her third tournament, the Family Circle Cup, Jennifer beat Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in the third round 6-1 6-1. Arantxa was ranked 5th in the world at the time. Pretty impressive win for Jennifer over the reigning French Open champion on a clay court.

I knew Jennifer at Saddlebrook when she moved there to train with us at 12 and she was a nice kid and her brother Steven was my buddy.

In hindsight it was a mistake to have Jennifer turn pro at 14, play a full schedule, uproot the entire family to travel with her full time, and have a 14 year old girl become the bread winner of the family. She would've been better off staying in high school and playing a few select events as time permitted. That being said, I'm so happy that she was able to claim 3 slams, a gold medal, and rise to number one. It made it all the sweeter when she eventually made it. She had some absolutely legendary slug-fests with Monica and Serena.

In less than a year, Jennifer would beat the 9-time and reigning Wimbledon champion, Martina Navratilova, on grass in straight sets!

Talk about somebody who didn't meet the hype.

Well, she won three Grand Slams, which is more than you can say about 99.9% of all the people who have ever played professional tennis.

No. she ONLY won 2 Australian, one Canadian Open, and oh btw, an Olympic Gold Medal. How could any 13 year old live up to that hype? The media does what the media does: they build you up to tear you down. Geez, give her a break. She overcame a lot of adversity and her comeback was one of the greatest in the history of sports.
