This commentary states the port was "founded by a dutchman" but to the best of my knowledge it was founded by the Air and Calder Navigation company. The dutchman was an engineer named "Vermuyden" he built the Dutch River, an extension of the river Don as a drainage aid, this river joins the river Ouse adjacent to the locks and docks. The commentary also states " in what was the East Riding of Yorkshire", when Goole and it's docks were founded it was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it became part of the East riding after the areas had been renamed North Humberside for several years.
