I installed the freshly restored frame, rear axle carrier, rear control arms, and final drive mounting bracket, along with brand new front control arms and engine subframe.

Great video allways had a soft spot for the country's love to see a good tidy job done man keep up the great work. Also to make them bushings easier to fit what we used to do in the garrage I worked in we would freeze the bushing I still do if I'm fitting bushings or bearings makes things a heap easier.

Thank you for the freezing tip, David! I appreciate it.

A cool project would be to put a mk4 Golf body on that frame if it were possible
@PaulBroenen Жыл бұрын
Cool idea. I Googled around a bit, but didn't find any examples of anyone doing that. Finding parts would be the biggest challenge, I think. The whole drivetrain (and suspension) attaches to the frame instead of the unibody. Any hoses, cables, linkages, etc. that connect the drivetrain to the rest of the car might need to be custom-made.

@Paul Broenen or VW just needs to bring it back here in states. That's even better!!! Think it would be a big seller here. Give Subaru Cross-Trek its run for its money 🤣

i watched several of your restauration videos and the work is incredible you did on your Golf Country. I want to convert a Golf Caddy in to a country. I try to gather a few information and measurements for the frame VW used to lift the Golf. Would you be able and willing to measure the 3 posts of the frame they used to raise the Golf and tell me how long they are? Also I would like to know the diameter of the tube. thanks a lot.
@PaulBroenen2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the slow reply. Your project sounds cool! Have you seen this one?: blog.heritagepartscentre.com/blog/2015/01/17/mk1-caddy-4x4/ The tubular frame has two sizes of tubing. The long side tubes are 7 cm in diameter. The lateral tubes are 4 cm in diameter. The four mounting posts at the front of the frame are 11 cm tall. Each post has one washer above and one washer below. Each washer is 5 mm thick, so the total lift is 11 + 0.5 + 0.5 cm = 12 cm. For the two rear posts, I can't be 100% certain about the height, because I don't have a non-Country suspension mount to compare it against. However, it appears to be the same dimension as up front: 12 cm. Good luck!

ONE more question from me do you buy any chance know where I can buy the centar driveshaft bearings or if you know the part number for those thanks in advance?
@PaulBroenen11 күн бұрын
Hi, Muhamed. Those intermediate bearings are very hard to find. The VAG part numbers are 191521349 and 191521350. Good luck! 👍

@PaulBroenen is there other solutions from other car that can be little or no modifications done I read somewhere bmw from those years had a same bearings I am wondering if those just fit around a shaft
@PaulBroenen10 күн бұрын
@@muhamedislamovic7088 Hi, Muhamed. Right, I've heard that an E30 driveshaft center support can be used in place of 191521350. And for 191521349, it appears there's an updated version of it available (1H0521349): www.amazon.de/-/en/Central-centring-propeller-1H0521349-191521349/dp/B00A6B8FGE

Would the country sub chassis bolt onto a Scirocco? Would love a 4x4 off road Scirocco
@PaulBroenen9 ай бұрын
That would be fun, but I don't think it would be a direct bolt-on application. The Golf and Scirocco undercarriages are different--both in terms of the components and the physical dimensions (width, length). But, with some creative modifications, you could make it work, like this someone did on this VW Caddy: syko.co.uk/mk-1caddy-syncro/

Hello, I want to know if you sell everything to do the conversion and what is its price
@PaulBroenen3 жыл бұрын
This car came from the VW factory this way. The "Country" was a 4WD variant of the VW Golf. VW sold them in Europe, but not in North America. My car was purchased by an American car importer in Germany and shipped to California, where I bought it. It is possible to convert a standard Golf to Syncro 4WD, but you would need to get the parts from a donor "Country". The parts are getting hard to find (and expensive).
