M42 is a great engine I drive it hard everyday, but do maintenance when it needs it. I’ve had mine four years,completely restored my E30 318is. Get a 4.27 LSD in the rear end of that thing.. it’s a blast

I've had a fascination with these old E30s since I was a kid, as well. I prefer Asian makes, for reliability reasons, but a classic Euro car turns any head because it's unique and rare.

Some of the cosmetic changes are pretty ghetto, especially the yellow tachometer and the tail lights.

jordann flat hey this is my car. I personally love the M42 engine for its quickness and MPG. It's a peppy little engine, pretty reliable, and easy to work on. The best in my opinion. M20 is a more powerful engine but more thirsty and has a few more problems

your m42 is better than m20 cuz its has more horsepower and torque beside that m20 has single overhead camshaft and m42 has twin camshaft so if you looking for more powerful engine go to M50B20 is the best upgrade for your engine
