1991 Frank Thomas Robin Ventura Home Runs Walk Off Grand Slam

Last game. July 31, 1991. I caught Robins Grand slam. I still have the ball. I've never forgotten that game.

Did the ball come right to you or or did you fight for it? I was nine years old watching that game on my parents old zenith quietly going crazy because everyone was sleeping lol. I think that grand slam happened late around 10pm that night? Does that sound right?

@@metop33 this is the story I had won tickets to the game for my perfect attendance in school the year previous. Me and my dad went to the game and found our seats I went there decked out and everything I had that was white sox I'm a die hard White Sox fan Midway through the 8th the White Sox were down my dad wanted to leave to beat traffic and I begged him to stay until the end of the game more or less the dream pitch count Robin Ventura is up at the plate I'm told my dad I looked at him before he even hit the home run that says we're going to win this game my dad's like well they got to finish up quick I want to beat traffic next thing you know crack and the balls come and I'm jumping up and down because I knew it was gone and then I look up and I got my mitt and it's coming right at me I'm like hold up and I jumped up on my seat caught the ball in my mitt and that's it and showed my dad we tried to go down to the dugout to get Robin to sign it but he was already gone in the shower

@@metop33 what is crazy is I missed team practice to go to that game. At the time I was a switch hitting second baseman with power on both sides of the plate. My coach reamed me out until I showed him the ball. After which I had to do 5 wind sprints instead of 10 for missing practice.

This is the game where Hawk gave Frank Thomas the nickname "The Big Hurt".Every time Frank homered, it seemed like Hawk would say "He Hurt It,Wimpy".

Gossage must have neck problems watching all of the big homeruns he gave up. So overrated. Some of the biggest postseason homeruns were given up by him.

You better check your history before you go spouting off ignorant comments. Yes, Gossage gave up the HR to George Brett in 1980... but it was in game 3 and the Royals were already leading the series 2-0. And it was not a walk-off HR. The Brett HR came in the 7th inning when closers pitched multiple innings. Thus, the Yankees still had 3 more times at bat to come back from a 4-2 deficit in that game. The only other 2 home runs Gossage gave up in the postseason came in game 5 of the 1984 World Series. His HR allowed to Lance Parrish in the 7th made the score 5-3 Tigers. Then with the Tigers leading 5-4 in the bottom of the 8th, Gossage gave up a 3-run HR to Kirk Gibson. Tigers win the game 8-4... but Gossage did not get the loss. And let's be honest, the Tigers were going to win that Series anyways. Those were the only 3 HR's Gossage gave up in the postseason in his career. Meanwhile, looking back at his success in the postseason you will find his first postseason was in 1978. He pitched 3 innings in game 3 and allowed 2 runs, but got the Win in relief. Then he pitched the next day and got the last 3 outs and got the Save clinching the pennant for the Yankees. In the '78 World Series, he pitched in games 2, 4, and 6 and 2 innings each time, did not allow a run, allowed only one hit and one walk and struck out 4. He was the winning pitcher of game 4... and he got the final 6 outs in game 6 to lock up a 7-2 win in the World Series clinching game. In 1981, he had one of the most dominant postseasons ever by a reliever. In the 1981 postseason, Gossage pitched in a whopping 8 games with 6 Saves. 6! He pitched 14 1/3 innings in those 8 games and did not allow a run. That's right an ERA of 0.00. He allowed only 6 hits, walked 4 and struck out 15 in an era when guys did not strike out. In game 5 of the 1984 NLCS, Gossage had another multi-inning Save pitching the final 2 innings to clinch the pennant for the Padres. His career postseason saw him make 19 appearances pitching in 31 1/3 innings allowing 10 earned runs for a very respectable ERA of 2.87. He allowed only 21 hits and 7 walks for a whip of 0.89, and he struck out 29. His record was 2-1 and he had 8 Saves in his postseason career. Overrated? Are you kidding me? Allowed some of the biggest HR in postseason history? No... not at all!
