26th year in atlanta only the 3rd playoff appearance. Would go on to win their first ever playoff series. What a turn around from their first 26 to the last 33.

This was just a surreal time to be a young Braves fan. I'd always paid attention to them and watched games here and there , but that year was the year I really became a fan. That September TBS was like must see TV everyday the Braves were on. And it seemed like they never lost. They just had this aura of just good feeling about them because that run was so unexpected and they had been terrible for so long. The young starting pitching grew up all at once and Terry Pendleton, Ron Gant, and David Justice just seemingly came out of nowhere to be excellent hitters. The defense was airtight up the middle with Olsen, Nixon, Lemke and Bellliard. Bream and Smith were solid hitters too. Just a great all-around team, could beat you a lot of ways.

I forgot Gary Carter and Bob Ojeda played on the Dodgers in 1991. They, along with Darryl Strawberry, in 1986, were on the Mets team that tore my guts out as a 9-year-old kid from south of Boston in that 1986 World Series. I feel a little more joy now remembering that they experienced this misery in LA in 1991.

I became an Atlanta Braves fan in 1982 (when I was 10 years old). My brother and I were given a hand me down push-button channel 2-13 13 inch television. The Braves were on TBS (channel 8) where I was raised in Arkansas. After some good teams in 82-83...The Braves suffered some lean years from 1984-1990. My friends made fun of me (many of them were Cardinals fans) for sticking with a 'loser'. However, I kept following them (Baseball America and The Sporting News helped keep me informed on their rebuild efforts via The Draft and Minor League System). 1991 was an amazing up and down/emotional season. Back and forth battle with The Dodgers. Then winning Games 6 and 7 against The Pirates with shutouts in both games in Pittsburgh. The Braves fought Minnesota tooth and nail for 7 games. They just couldnt get that clutch hit when needed (especially in Game 7). Still I look back on 1991 as a fond year. I'll never forget that comeback against The Reds when The Braves were down 6-0 after 1 inning late in that season.

One of my best memories of my life as kid because the 1991 Braves success was totally unexpected. In some ways, the 2021 team shares the same personality traits as that team.

What amuses me about the Dodgers loss is that 42,000 fans came to Candlestick for a fourth-place Giants team that finished 12 games under .500. They wanted that badly to see the Dodgers lose, to the point of chanting “BEAT L.A.! BEAT L.A.!!” from start to finish. 😂😂😂

Yeah I remember Lasorda complaining about that a little bit as things really got tight. Said something about how "we're beating our heads just trying to win a game while the Braves are coasting against teams that don't care". He was sort of right...the Dodgers had to play the Padres and the Giants the last 12 games. Padres are division rivals and were pretty good that year. The Giants stunk, but fought them tooth and nail because like you said they hated the Dodgers. The Braves had their last 12 games against Houston who was the worst team in the league like 30 games under .500 and Cincinnati who was 10 games under and had given up completely. The Braves ended up winning 8 in a row to clinch while the Dodgers went 4-4 during that same stretch.

Wow the dodgers won a 100 games and no playoffs it was not no wild card back then

If the wildcard format was active and divisions realigned, the Braves and Dodgers would've met in the Division Series. The Pirates would've played the winner of the Cards/Padres one-game playoff because they finished tied.

Why were the Houston Astros' road uniforms almost identical to what they would've worn at home during this time period? They were the only Major League Baseball that I'm aware of (past or future) that had virtually all white road uniforms.

Both Dodgers and Giants must have been happy after the 1993 season when the Braves were moved to the NL East during the 1994 MLB realignment Back in the early 90s the trend was for the California NL West teams to tear each other apart giving the Braves the division. Giants messing with Dodgers chances in 1991 and Dodgers returning the favour in 1993.
