1991 Senior ABA Finals - Royal Albert Hall, London

Well done on posting this David. It features one of the last great ABA finals. It was a prestigious venue and one of the last on which the inimitable Harry Carpenter commented. Wales and Scotland still participated in what were true GB Championships.Two future world champions are shown in Joe Calzaghe and Paul Ingle ( I was already a friend of Paul's and here he boxed Micky Horobin from the St Pancras Club where I've been Secretary for 30 years) There was no split in English amateur boxing as has happened this year 'I wonder if we shall ever see the like of such an ABA Final as this again !

Stephen Hoier thanks Stephen. I know you are a real patron and supporter of the amateur game. To me winning the Senior ABA's is right up there with winning a British professional title in terms of honours. I have the recordings of the 1993 and 1994 finals as well but annoyingly the BBC coverage did not include Richard winning the Bantamweight final in 93 or Coventry's Dean Pithie winning featherweight honours the following year.

Well said Stephen, i so much wanted to win the A.B.A'S at the Albert Hall, i won mine in 1994,which was the first year of the 'split' Good times!!

That is a great achievement! I started boxing around that time with the sole ambition of winning an ABA title, sadly I wasn't anywhere near good enough.
