@erichakanson70107 жыл бұрын
Petrolicious is great at these types of stories. So many of us (hopefully) have similar stories with our fathers and try to create these connections with our children. Often the car itself doesn't matter, whether it's a Pacer or a Porsche, the time in the garage with family that's important. I never get tired if saying great job again petrolicious!

My E36 was bought by my father as a project for us. It was not driveable, but we spent many nights and weekends lying on the cold driveway putting in a new clutch and transmission, among other small things. He drove it to work sometimes for about 9 months before he bought an E39. I was then handed the keys to the E36 and have been driving it for coming up on a full year. It's a 318iC, so not fast by any means, but I love it because I know I helped get it back into shape. Starts up 100% of the time and has never given me a major issue. It's one of the best daily drivers a college student could ask for, in my opinion.

Geordan, your dad is a great man and a great Father.... don't feel embarrassed, just be grateful that both of you have the opportunity to share something you love....together.... the Venturi name is deep in your family heritage and rightly so. The car looks like new and probably better than factory as your father had more time to finish it... make sure you learn his skills... new cars are so lifeless....

According to Wikipedia, the Venturi 260 APC was a French make built from 1991 to 2000, this is re-badged as the Venturi Atlantique, it was powered by a 2.8 liter Turbo V-6, with a 5-speed gearbox, it weighed 1,110 kgs and had a top speed of 167 mph. Only 700cars were built by Venturi before the company went under.

Charles, Thanks for the details. With such a low production, they must have used another company's engine, gearbox, suspension etc. Do you know what they used, or where further build details can be found?
@francoismontresmecaniques70827 жыл бұрын
Engine on this one is Turbocharged PRV so "Peugeot Renault Volvo", a 90° V6 derived from a V8 project that never came in and equipped high end version of Renault 25, Peugeot 604, Alpine, some Volvo and so on. I think Gearbox comes from Renault afaik, classic manual 5 speed, I have also read Citroen CX. Chassis was developped at the beginning by no less than Rondeau, who is a LeMans winner, on his own prototype in 1980. Before the V6 came in, the first one had a 4 cylinder of the Peugeot 505 turbo, less powerful but lighter. read more here on Jean Rondeau en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Rondeau It has a lot of outside component froem the french production, but the finish was high end (wood, leather and so on). The late version of the 300 Atlantique had another engine the ES9 of PSA (Peugeot-Citroen) with twin turbo.

Nice to see a left-field choice instead of the usual Porsche/Ferrari. Also nice to see an owner who realizes how fortunate he is and is humble enough to admit it. And bonus points for driving the car harder than the usual owners featured here on Petrolicious!

If you have a good relationship with your Father, be wise and spend time with him.

Very nice story and video. The Venturis are interesting cars. I think they are the closest thing to Japanese cars made in Europe, when it comes to copying other cars designs. This one looks a lot like a Ferrari 348 knock off. Even the wheels look basically identical. Then the Venturi 400 GT screams Ferrari F40. It looks like a F40 wannabe. In all honesty if it was not for the price they sold new and for how rare they are, they would be basically considered kitcars in the same way Lotus sometimes was. Not really kitcars but on that level of status if you know what I mean. Lotus took years to overcome that status and for some it still hasn't. By the way, this cars looks a lot like a Fiero too. The GT fastback ones. If one drove by on U.S streets I'm pretty sure people would think it was a Pontiac Fiero. But in the end that doesn't really matter much. It doesn't matter that the style is a blend and copied. It only matters how it drives. If it drives nicely and is exciting then it's worth it. Cars get reputations sometimes they don't deserve in both directions. Some cars have a good rep and are famous and then you drive it and it's crap. Others have a bad rep because of ignorance and are great to drive and exciting. The Fiero for example, which gets an undeserved rep but it's actually very nice to drive. I never bought one because of the rep and what all the ignorant people repeated like parrots. Then I drove one a few years back and was wondering what the heck were the people putting it down for. Wish I had bought one in my younger years. Then I drove a very legendary mid engine supercar, which shall go unnamed to avoid sparking the wrath in fanboys, and it was total crap to drive! I couldn't believe how bad it was and how quick I wanted to get out of it. It sucked on curves too. It was basically a straight line car. What's the point? People pay way too much attention to brand name and image. Show offs are normally not true petrolheads. So if the Venturi drives nice and is exciting, this is what matters in the end. I would love to drive one. He seemed like he was enjoying the heck out of his in the video.
