Such an appealing car. I always liked 80s and early 90s Audi styling. A boxy shape with rounded corners. Very handsome. The S4 managed to be a genuine sports sedan with impressive performance for the time as well as a very dignified luxury sedan.

Agreed. Cars of today have way too much going on. The styling is just too busy. I don't see the need to put fake vents and head extractors all over something like a Honda Civic. When I look at pretty much anything made in the past 5 years or so my eyes are assaulted with so many angles and shapes it overloads my brain. Apart from being downright tacky, it's making all cars look the same. If there were function that precedes the form, such as with many super/hypercars I'd be ok with it, but as far as I can tell none of it is at all practical. It's just there for the looks of it.

I had a teacher in the late 1990s that bought a used one that was about 4 years old and had 60K miles on it. He loved loved loved it until one day he came in with an awful look on his face. We Jokingly asked him why he was late? He told us that he Went to the Audi dealership to get an oil change/ Front brake job. They told him it would be $1600. He said that when he started breathing again he decided to go elsewhere but none of the standard repair shops said the day either wanted to or could even do the brake work because Audi was so stingy with the parts. Considering this is Miami and not somewhere in rule middle America that seemed strange. He was referred to somebody who specialized in European cars but wasn't much more relieved to hear that the new total would be only $1300. This was just a basic brake job and oil change. The mechanic told him that he was getting off easy and he needed to get rid of the car before 75K miles when things started to seriously break. The mechanic told him that these were eternal money pits. Several months later when his driver's side power window failed at a cost of $950 it wasn't surprising one day when he pulled up in a used maxima . He said that when he told the Euro trash mechanic that he wanted to Push the car into a Lake the mechanic told him that he better think twice because Even though he knew that he was joking many insurance companies were Used to the owners of audis and jaguars Doing things like that to their cars in order to collect the insurance. He also told him that he wouldn't get anywhere near the amount of money he got suckered out of 6 months earlier. Our teacher voice 62 years old at the time and told us that in the time he owned the car at 60K through 65K miles that was the most expensive 5K miles he had ever spent. At our 10 year high school Reunion I told him that I didn't remember anything else from his boring class but his funny story about the Audi. He gave me a look and said that he never forgot that lesson either Because it left him so upside down that he was still driving the used maxima he traded Indian on.🤣

That was one handsome car, which is quite a contrast with the unfortunate looking current Audis with their disproportionately gigantic grills. I lusted after that car when I first saw it and I still think it looks better than most cars on the road today.

It took me a long time to buy my first A4. I did not like the front grill compared to the two 4000's I had owned. But that styling was no longer available. So wanting to stay Audi I got my first A4. You have no idea how much difference there was between the 4000 series and the A4! I slowly got used to and started enjoy them all. Especially with my 2nd A4. But that new snout? Kinda big! Well 6 months into the current A5 design, changed my mind again!

What a great era for German cars. Porsche 964, Mercedes 500e, BMW M5 and the S4. The S4 (later rebadged S6) was priced like the 535i or 400e. M5 was $10k more, 500e $35k (!) more. Seems pretty fair to me, especially with the AWD. I would’ve taken one of these over a 535i or 400e.

I got a 2.5 TDI 100 of that generation handed down to me from my father and drove it for a while back in the late 90s - it's funny how I always thought this style of Audis to look boring and uninspired (which it kinda, sorta did), but seeing the much more busy styling Audi and lots of other manufacturers have adopted in recent years, that older look starts to make a bit more sense.

such a great car. When I look at the 1992 cars from America and you see this Audi there is no comparison imo whatsoever. I have owned 2 A6's now and I can tell you they are phenomenal and quite frankly bulletproof. Just maintain them and they are good to you. My current A6 is the 3.0T with supercharger and that engine is bulletproof. I know of 2 that friends of mine have with over 200K and no issues at all. I am at 100K and no issues at all.

Harassment isn’t tolerated on KZbin I’m sure motorweek wouldn’t put up with it on this channel. Especially if they knew you were picking on a little kid (24year old, but on the level of a 5 year old in terms of disability. So yeah I accept your comment my comment was kind of long but it was because I was driving with my kiddos he’s three and the other wants to like I said so I’ll take your comment today because I took my medicine but next time I will do I will say something to KZbin and have your account restricted because you can’t be mean to people regardless if they have a disability or not and I really do I have 80 HD by four disorder anxiety OCD and I have dyslexia that’s why I couldn’t use my keyboard because I was overwhelmed and couldn’t type so yeah my message might be long but your reply was not needed today have a great day bye!

These were incredibly unreliable cars even when brand new. They often lived at the dealer awaiting parts sometimes having to be shipped from Germany. They’re also incredibly nose heavy with most of the engine in front of the front wheels which is just plain bad engineering. The result was lots of under steer, nose dive under braking, and a very unbalanced poor handling car. And many 2 liter 4 cylinders completely shame the output of this bigger coarse unbalanced 5 cylinder that sounds more like a riding lawnmower than a well engineered performance car. Yet more bad German engineering. The resale value of most Audi’s falls off a cliff once they were out of warranty as they’re money pits. You really have to drink the drugged German Koolaid to own an Audi of this vintage.
