My friend test drove several LS1 Trans Am after driving my 94 Z28 M6 and he said only the 2002 Ram Air felt as good or better but he felt that they didn’t have the low end torque of my LT1.. I had hypertech programmer 160* thermostat, K&N air filter only and stock exhaust including the tips with a flowmaster muffler only. I beat lots of cars.. a few cobras of various years (not termi lol never ran one but would get me) t-type Buick turbo, corvette auto LT1, LS1 auto all highway runs not set up but typically leaving the drag strip on the way home. I ran it a couple times and went 13.8@100. I shifted @ 5000 one run and 6000 another run and the only difference was a couple hundredths quicker and .2 mph slower shifting 5000. Sweet spot would have been about 5200-5300 I think. Seat of pants would have been fastest I think but I wasn’t used to the track so I picked some shift points. These runs were with a super conservative launch and slow 60’. I know it would have gone 13.7s but maybe 13.6 with a good launch. I went on and on lol I also beat a sc fox body and a cam heads fox.. it was close but the guy was like please tell me that’s not stock and it was at that point. I was power shifting so I did get the most out of it.

The lt1 didn't want any of a properly driven 4v 4.6 which came in 96. They were faster and trapped higher stock for stock. They had the edge over the base gt for sure it was a 2v 4.6 and a 302 which is a 1960s design. Much much less displacement than the camaros so I'd hope they have an edge. The engine and transmission was the only good thing about them. The rear is made of glass and it is fugly compared to an sn95 mustang inside and out and overall quality is lower.

The early 90s were important for the Vette . ZR1 was a beast Halo car for GM. The LT1 brought more performance and reliability. Handling was always good but became world class . You could still be competitive at any track day with a 92 Corvette, with new rubber and a few simple power upgrades .
@rodmunch692 жыл бұрын
Whats great is that GM went to Lotus for the ZR1 engine, which p/o'd the American engineers who felt slighted. So they beefed up the 'base' engine to the point that it outpeformed the ZR1, literally the next year, GM then forced them to detune it while going back to Lotus and trying to get them to beef up the ZR1 engine. It's a fun little back and forth that lead to some big performance gains for the Corvette over a short period of time.

As for current cars I have a 1982 Corvette, which is one of the best looking cars ever made, and it has t-tops and is a fantastic highway cruising car, it drives on the interstate as well as my old Cadillac CTS. My other car is a BMW 435i, and I'll tell you what, I was never a BMW fanboy growing up, but Cadillac so screwed up their infotainment systems in the mid-2010s that I skipped on getting another Caddy and ended up the BMW dealership, where at the time I leased a 428i, which is probably the best driving car I've ever owned, it was so insanely well balanced. I liked that 428i so much I bought one a year ago, but then decided I wanted more power and just traded it in on a 435i. @@timmypstyle The 4-series BMW is an amazing looking car, sort of an upscale Mustang on the exterior, except up a few levels in build quality (and price when new, to be fair, although used they're in the same ballpark). Like I said, I never considered BMW until GM blundered with their awful CUE infotainment system in the Cadillac. But before that I never owned a foreign car by choice, the only one I ever had was a 87 Excel in the 90s, and it was the biggest piece of trash I've ever owned. OH, I too once owned a Monte Carlo, it was a 1984 SS -- convertible. Yes, you could buy them from the dealer as a convertible, they sent it off to a chop shop for the conversion. I bought mine used, wish I still had it since it'd be worth a ton today. Instead some idiot in a Towncar hit me on the front passengers tire, which caused a chain of events that broke the gas line, and then caught the car on fire,and it burned to the ground. After that I got a Fiero GT, which is still the most fun to drive car I've ever owned, it was just a go-kart. Also had a Mustang, that Camaro, a '05 GTO with 400hp, that thing wasn't fast off the line, probably around 5.5s I'd guess, which isn't great for 400hp, but floor it while you were doing 60, and it threw you back like a roller coaster. Also had a couple of CTS's, a Saturn Sky, which is another good small car, the BMW's, oh and my first car, a 1972 Cutlass w/ 350 rocket. Also owned two other Cutlass', then a couple of boring SUVs, which I got rid of quickly after taking a normal corner at 30mph and feeling like they'd tip over.

Doubt anyone will say that, in 30 years most cars will be electric, gas will be at an insane high premium to consume and be allowed to pollute environment with. A '22 Corvette will be something classic only those with real means will be allowed to drive on their private land maybe. What I'm saying is there won't many 600hp ICE cars left in 30 years man, think !
@EagleScoutmano2 жыл бұрын
This was being contrasted to cars like the JDM imports, that had seen their sticker-price literally double in 4 years (putting basically all the classic '90s JDM cars around 40-50k starting price), and cars like the new Viper that was around 55k, or the Porsche 968, with MSRPs varying between 40k and 55k.

The best LT1 Corvette is still the original 1970 LT-1 with its 370 hp solid lifter-equipped 350 V8!
@EagleScoutmano2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm.... Nope Look, the C4 is beautiful, a wild car with more curves than was reasonable, but as a performer, even it's most potent big-blocks can't hold up to modern cars. Plus the 370 HP you're quoting for '71 is SAE Gross horsepower. The same engine, measured in SAE net horsepower without any change, dropped to 300, then 270, then 250. The LT1 C4 is an equally potent car, and has far more top end (old 'Vettes are gearing limited to something like 120 overall). The modern LT1, from the C7 era, absolutely demolishes both older variants. It's not even close, since it also demolishes the hallowed L88.
@EagleScoutmano2 жыл бұрын
*the C3, not C4, is the car with all the curves. For some reason I can't edit my comments, but that was the intended statement.
@jeffspicolli593 Жыл бұрын
Hp was measured differently in the 1970's so if the 70's motor was measured as net hp like today the1990's LT1 is more powerful. Thew 2014 6.2 litre LT1 at 420 hp in C7 demolishes both.

So, for the ZR-1, GM got recently acquired Lotus to develop the engine, which apparently pissed off the guys at Corvette. And this is the result. Kind of sad that you have to kick some people in the ass to actually get them to do their jobs. And people wonder why the American auto industry has gone down the toilet.
@EagleScoutmano2 жыл бұрын
'American auto industry has gone down the toilet'... Wait, what? Putting aside that modern cars are worlds away more reliable than classic cars (200k miles was a pipe-dream in the '60s/'70s), modern American sportscars aren't just competitive against the entire world- they're industry leading... And have been for decades. Corvettes in particular have not just been routinely supreme performers (C6 Z06/ZR1, C7 Z06/ZR1, and the upcoming C8 Z06, for instance), but have done it every time at a price point that no other company has been able to match... And that during a time when there actually have been a few serious attempts to do so, from manufacturers like Dodge and Nissan.
@jeffspicolli593 Жыл бұрын
It didn't happen like that. The LT5 for the ZR1 was much to small in numbers for GM engineering and assembly lines so the top end dual overhead cam design was contracted to Lotus which GM owned and assembly for the same small volume reasons was contracted to Mercury Marine. Lotus also engineered the FX3 adjustible shock absorber system on C4.
