mastapasta. I owned one of these back in 2001 during my senior year of HS.. Myne was Full burgundy with a 3 inch cowl hood and the 5 star chrome ponys.. Also had a basic flow master exaust that sounded amazing! It was def one the cleanest foxes in my area and pll atill to this day ask me about it. Not to mention it was actually really reliable. Never had many problems w it except for having to rebuild the trans once. But yea man, i highly suggest you get one IF you can find a clean one that hasnt been abused. Thats the sad thing with these cars. They eventually ended up in tge wrong hands and typically end up wrapped around trees etc. But good luck man. You have great taste in cars👌

Although I do like the Fox design, to me, it is the least "Mustang looking" car of all the generations...
@jamiecinder9412
@jamiecinder9412 3 жыл бұрын
@@mojostephen No.... That would be the Mustang II. The Fox looks like a real performance car, even though it's unapologetic with its 80's chic. Besides, do you think that all Mustangs have to look similar to the 1965 model to be considered a "real" Mustang? Because, I honestly feel like this obsession with its past has held the Mustang back and prevented it from continuing to meet the original design intent laid out by Lee Iacocca.

By 1992 these Fox "stangs were outdated by Celicas, and Z cars. The body style would have to carry on for another year. Still, today I'd rather own my '92 LX 5.0 5 speed convertible than any of the more modern competiton from back in the day...

back then, this car represented the "return of the musclecar", THAT is why they were so iconic; nothing could stand up to them at the time, and they had a huge aftermarket to make them really go. You could here them coming with that throaty sound right from the factory; nothing else sounded like that then. Drag racers went for the LX notchback since they were lighter.

A Duncan A1 the hatchback mustang was only a thing during the fox body years. (99% sure Mustang II didn't have a hatchback option) in my personal opinion, the fox body mustang isn't worth much unless you convert it to a drag car, but it's still better looking than the 74-78 mustangs.

I remember really wanting a 1987+ Fox Body Mustang GT 5.0 after watching the great movie "Twins" in 1988 when I was only 9 years old. In the movie, it was a 1987 or 1988 GT 5.0 convertible with an automatic, but I fell in love with the looks and especially sound of that 5.0 - In the Spring of 2003 at age 24, I finally bought the car I had desperately wanted since 1988... A Mustang GT 5.0! It was a mint condition with only 55k documented miles on it, -1991 Mustang GT 5.0 Hatchback 5-speed manual from the original owner who was in his 50s and took great care of his car. He had and gave me all the paperwork for the maintenance & the performance parts installed. He even gave me the original window sticker! It was years ago, but the main mods it had was...A 5.0 Cobra Intake Manifold. Two Chamber American Thunder Flowmaster exhaust system... He had the lower rear bumper cut perfectly, so the exhaust came through to show off it's dual exhaust. It also had Shorty Headers... I don't remember the brand? It also had upgraded 3.55 gears. Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch & Centerforce lighter weight vs stock, - Billet Steel Flywheel. A Hurst Shifter. Underdrive Pulleys... Steada, I think? MSD Ignition, March Ram Air -Cold Air Induction. Custom 93 octane racing tune - on a dyno. 155 lph Fuel Pump. Optima battery. There were many other upgrades, but this would take forever to list it all - Plus I forgot some of the stuff. Anway, I only owned it for about 11 months before a huge Deer ran in front of my car at night on an unlit area of highway where I was going about 55 mph in a 60 zone because it was so dark. It absolutely destroyed my beautiful Mustang. I wasn't injured, thankfully, but the Mustang was a total loss. To this day, I'm so upset about this! I wanted to keep that 5.0 for the rest of my life... What a shame. Freaking Deer! I told the original owner, and he felt so bad for me because he knew how much I loved this car. I kept it mint and drove it civilized 99% of the time. I only got on it every once in a while. Sorry for this super long comment. Wow 😆

I have never understood why these cars are so loved. This is by far the ugliest generation of the Mustang, although the refresh here is an improvement over the 80s ones (but that's not saying much). The 4th gen was a vast improvement in styling but it wasn't until they refreshed that in the early 2000s that the car started to look aggressive again. The 2005 retro redesign though was the rebirth of the Mustang. I remember seeing that for the first time and thinking wow, what a perfect modern take on the original 60s design. You can't park a fox body next to that gen, the original, or a modern S550 and tell me it looks better because they don't even compare. There's few cars I would ever pick out from the 80s but you can be sure that I would pick a Camaro or Firebird over a fox body, as well as a Buick Grand National. Now I know these cars can be had for cheap right now, so people who can't afford a newer one are probably buying them and having fun modding them. But why is there such a cult following for them?

Is this car still for sale or not I had a 91 same color but my pony wheels where chrome but then I took the 5.0 out and built a 351 w punch 60 over mini tub took out the 5 speed transmission and put in c6 tube framed the front end no bottle all motor I'm not going to text everything if you know about car's you will understand 60 over triple valve springs Victor Jr intake with a 750 demon/Damon I had a easy 10 Grand in the top end that was just starting out back when I was maybe 21 I'm 38 now I'm not getting into the bottom end anybody that knows about 351 Windsor's you know basically what I done I sold it and my other toys when my dad passed in 07 it was a ground pounder all of my Ford's was but the last time I took it to Bristol TN drag track I broke 200 MPH they told me to make sure I but my parachute on it before I bring it back but Dad got sick and sold it everybody with this LS Chevy motors I can take a 302 and put 289 heads on one and out run most of this LS motors but I love Ford but my dream car has always been a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS black with red SS strips or Smokey grey with flat black stripes but I am looking for a fixer upper I would rather have a 88-93 fox body 5.0 GT fastback or a coupe but I will take a 80 - 93 mustang Fox body don't have to be a fox body I will take a 4 or 6 cylinder body and build them that's what me and my cousins and brothers used to do just something to build again like I said I want a fox body but it don't have to be a 5.0 gt I will build it if it is worth doing and I'm looking for a decent price I'm just a poor brick Mason from TN and work isn't doing to well right now either thanks and if anyone has or knows where a 68 coupe mustang fixer upper to I like fastback but I have always wanted a coupe for some reason or a 67 will work to I would rather drive a used Ford truck than have a brand new Chevy truck or new Dodge truck

Bought a new 1984 GT, thirty days after I took delivery got his head on by a drunk who was on the wrong side of a divided highway, car had $7000.00 in damage in 1984 money and I had to have plastic surgery twice. If it weren't for the fact it was built so well for the time I would not have survived. Bought a 1965 2+2 with 34000 original miles and factory A/C a year or two later, only drove that car sometimes because of the low mileage and kept it for eleven years. In 1987 when they redesigned the Mustang I fell in love with it and ordered a 1987 GT. That was a great car, took it on a 1000 mile trip the first week I had it and had a blast. Beat the hell out of a squeaky, rattle prone Camaro or Firebird of the time.

Bucket list car? Man am I old. This was my daily driver for 11 years. Mine was an.88 LX manual. It had 175,000 miles on the clutch when it's notoriously bad brakes couldn't stop me fast enough in a traffic sudden stop. The metal fatigue was terrible on these cars. They twisted like a flxible flyer bus as the car got older. And the front geometry wore the insides of the tires horribly. But with the quad shocks in the back it could attack twisties, especially sweepers, better than it had a right to and it's "GT" ( grand tourismo) abilities to drive all day at high speeds without breaking a sweat where legendary. Mine got 30mpg if you kept it below 65 mph. Most people only care about 0-60 but this car was so much more. It was the last Mustang pony car. My 2016 is a pig compared to the 88. Miss the 88 alot. If you get one, convert the rear brakes to disks, install the geometry fix for the front and put the X brace under neath and the car is good for almost ever.

In 1992 I don't know why you'd buy one of these over the Mk4 Supra or Mk3 RX7 but regardless... what a great looking & sounding car

a friend of mine's dad had an 88 GT convertible. it was about 2 years old when he bought it. by the time it was 5 years old, it was basically a junk car...and he actually tried to take care of it. these cars had absolutely horrible build quality. everything on it was worn out or broken in a half decade and he ended up trading it for a minivan. I might pay $5000 for a nice, low mileage one, but $18K??? LOL no way in hell!!!

They couldn't call the 302ci V8 a 4.9L instead of 5.0L is because of the 300ci Inline 6 truck engine which is also a 4.9. You could see what a nightmare that would be int he parts department. You can't have 2 completely different engines with he same displacement getting confused.

Curious, why are people have the late 86-92 priced so high? I like mustangs but $3,500 and higher is a bit much. Dont know just asking. They are sports cars and im sure most have been driven hard.

With unmolested examples getting harder to find, the price of these all stock foxbodies have sky rocketed. An example like this is worth an easy $20K to $25K in Michigan anyway.

Friend’s mom had one of these in mid 90’s I was 15/16 years old and the sound was amazing and like nothing else at the time. I’d love to buy one of these one day. Convertible though, just like the one we would drive in.

Really need to find a comparable 3rd gen. Suspension and brakes were awful on the foxes vs the 3rd gen z29 Formula or IROC s.

I tried so hard to like these fox body mustangs but everytime I test drove one, it always felt like a death trap POS. The brakes were awful, the door wouldnt shut easily, it just felt like I was racing down the road in a stepped on beer can. I will stick with vettes and fbody cars.
