The goal is credited to the legendary Abedi Pele because he scored it-----just like you, most Nigerians are still puzzled by the goal decades after it was scored----it was surreal-----Abedi pele flicked the ball using the back of his head and it flew over the head of Prince Polley.

I remember i was 11 or 12 when i watched this with my step dad Collins he passed away sadly few months after this tournament from brain cancer if i remember right.He had no symptoms or anything i went to Accra with him i think march of 1992 .we came back then we went to his hometown a month after .He got sick in August of 92 and died in September

No wonder they don't like Ghanaians. This was a bitter defeat for Nigeria because they had all their top players on the field whereas Ghana was playing without Tony Yeboah, Appiah, Pele, and Baffoe.

It's credited to Abedi Pele because he scored it. It wasn't Prince Polley. The camera man focused the camera on Polley during the celebration, fooling the commentators.

It's Abedi Pele who scored that header for Ghana. It wasn't Prince Opoku Polley who scored the first for Ghana. The commentators and the graphics got it wrong that time...

If you slow down the video you will notice that the scorer of that goal had a band on his wrist. Polley definitely wasn't the scorer.

Polley did score the second goal but the first was Abedi, watch it again. Polley was the guy jumped. Didnt even get close to it. Polley was an overrated striker. i remember, I watched this game

Brilliant first Ghanaian headed goal by Prince Polley. As a Nigerian the black stars broke my heart after the match; but give where credit's due, after the super eagles made all the running with action man Mutiu Adepoju getting a well deserved goal lead. The stars took their chances brilliantly. What a match it was and even so extraordinary how the players maintained the high tempo on such a bad pitch. One thing puzzles me is why is the first Ghanaian goal generally credited to Abedi Pele?

Because he was the scorer, Prince Polley was the guy who was standing in front of the goal who tried to redirect the ball, but he couldn't touch the ball.

it was actually Abedi Pele that headed in the equaliser. I remember thinking that it was Prince Polley Opoku cos os the way he was celebrating.

The equaliser was by Prince Polley. Abedi did not score on that day. Nigerians are good marksmen. They were able to cancel out Maradona from the World Cup game so they gave Abedi no chance. He had to do the crosses.

It definitely was Abedi Pele. I watched this game in Ghana and Abedi tore the Nigerians apart.
