Miller gets 9.950 and Zmeskal gets 9.987 for (admittedly nice) Yurchenko fulls while Kozlova only gets 9.825 for a stuck double twist. Ay ay ay. Love that the crowd and Tim protest Karbonenko's blatant underscoring on VT and PB.

Kozlova was unbelievably underscored. She gets a 9.825 for a stuck double twisting Yurchenko but Kim gets a 9.987 for a full twisting Yurchenko with a hop. Extremely biased judges.

That’s why we have 2 scores now, so everyone starts with a 10.0 execution and difficulty is based on…difficulty. So much more fair.

This was the year I found out how right my father was. In the early 80's I wanted to become an elite gymnast and he told me "I wouldn't advise it, choose a different sport. Gymnastics is a corrupt and evil farce that will break you down." I ended up choosing track and field instead- great decision,, many achievements. AND IT WAS FUN! When the Kim Kelly debacle occurred I looked at my dad and thanked him for keeping me out of the mess.

Love the judge at 39:54 "But there is no mistake...". That judge, Tim Daggett, and the crowd all knew that 9.8 for Karbanenko on PB was too low.

The Scam cup is a farce but the FTY was out of a 10 just like the DTY still. The FIG stupidity is not totally the fault of the judges. If they felt it was too early to downgrade the FTY to lower than 10, the DTY should have been out of a 10.2 until the new scoring system in 93.

Technically Shannon had a 10 sv vault that had more amplitude, style, flair, distance and she perfectly stuck hers too. I would've given Kozlova a higher score for the difficulty and superior technique, but it's not an egregious error.

Those sideways vaults for the men looked super dangerous, and it was on the old horse, which made it even more dangerous.

It didn't matter that Shannon fell on floor--the judges were going to make sure Zmeskal won no matter what. A 9.987 on vault with a hop, a 9.937 on bars with a hop, a 9.95 on beam with a balance check and a hop...wut.

Idk, I think even with the hop, Zmeskal performed better than Shannon. Her releases on bars were much higher and her vault was much more powerful. ::shrug:: Maybe I'm biased. I was never a huge fan of Shannon. (I'm sure I'll get hate for that comment, hahah. She's got such a cult following)

Sarah McClure Nah. You're entitled to your opinion. I can't agree, though. Shannon's level of difficulty outshone Zmeskal's on every event and her form and artistry were impeccable. I have to chuckle at the broadcasters' pathetic attempt to sell this as a competition when it was so biased the Yankees could have fallen on their heads and still won. Can't resist the beautiful gymnastics, though...

@@seer1623 you're wrong. On vault both had same YF, and Kim was a better vaulter, on floor Zmeskal had more difficulty, but Olympics, where she had a stress fracture on her leg. Miller only had more difficulty on bars and beam.

@@seer1623 Miller's difficulty on floor was clearly lower, and they did the same vault so it is a exagerration to say her difficulty outshines Zmeksal on every event. Anyway all of Zmeskal's success were Karolyi politics, reputation, and home court scoring. She never deserved her world AA title where at best she should have finished 3rd behind Boginskaya and Bontas, especialy as she wasn't even doing the floor difficulty she was here back then.

Miller is one of my favorite gymnasts but I never liked the way she did her full pirouette on bars. Looks choppy and like she struggles to get it around. Her hop full however was always exquisite. I wish more gymnasts would do that skill. I suppose there isn’t much value in it but it’s pretty and makes you go oooh that was neat!!

Vault- Kozlova was who should have had that 9.987. Kim AND Shannon BOTH should have scored a 9.95 as Shannon UNDERscored. Bars- Shannon ALONE should have had a 9.937 or 9.95. Kim was about a 9.875 at best. Beam- Shannon was the only 9.95 i saw. Kim a 9.9 at best Floor- The Stars here were BOTH the Bulgarian Maya and Hungary's Onodi who were BOTH better than Zmeskal who fudged 2 of her landings both short and should have deducted and scored lower than both the other girls who were somewhat underscored. Final standings- Kim WAS and Should have been the winner overall and would have STILL come out on top but NOT with such inflated scores. Would have sent a message to her that yes you won here but you had a lot of high 9.8's and low 9.9's thus get better instead of coasting on the same routines that she did here for Barcelona. Plus Shannon fell on floor. Kim was simply overscored and it did her and her coach wrong by these high scores at going back to the gym and making changes that could have seen a better outcome in Barcelona. Although the ONE event she greatly DID do better on FORM wise only in Barcelona was BARS. But her difficulty on bars and beam was not up to par and unlike the Worlds in Paris she could not win on consistancy as well as that competition was really 3 seperate competitions in one which was very odd and never happened again that way where she got lucky on beam there in that strange format. Love Kim but just my thoughts. I will say her yurchenko full at usa and trials 92 was the BEST yurchenko full EVER performed by anyone EVER. And her double lay at trials on floor was GRAND. She should have kept that but needed to upgrade bars n beam for Barcelona in my opinion and easly could have on beam for sure.
