His predecessor Paul Bracq was French and established the entire Mercedes design of the post-war era from 1953. After 1967, he went to BMW and created timelessly beautiful upper-class limousines and sports coupés. Klaus Luthe took over design at BMW in 1976 and developed the design for the BMW 850, its direct competitor the C140.

The detail of the rear tail light being separated from the boot lid always fascinated me - as complicated to make as I thought. Nevertheless, prefer my C215. The C140 is impressive in every aspect... but elegant it is not.

W 140 ist ein Quantensprung gegenüber dem 126. W126 fusst auf dem 116er bekanntlich und wurde in den 70igern entwickelt (Marktstart 1979). Die extrem lange Bauzeit des 126 verdeckt diese Fakten oftmals. Der 140er ist nun im Oldiealter angekommen und kein youngtimer mehr, auch wenn man dies kaum wahrhaben will.

Der w126 ist selbstverständlich ein ganz hervorragendes und sicheres Fzg, bis ins Detail. Aber seine Ablösung schon Ende der 80iger überfällig, die dann zum MJ 1992 erfolgte.
