I agree they way fords were so dominant and then all of sudden the gm cars come on strong oddly enough 3 car was just absent the hole way I think that 4 car left at least 3 or 4 wins on the table

1992 was indeed a special season. The big finish at Atlanta. The Petty leaving / Gordon arriving scenario. Given what would happen in 1993 to Alan and Davey ... the opening segment with Davey feels even more special. He was a great young man. RIP Davey AND Alan...

I saw several races at Riverside late '70s early 80s early in Waltrip's career, he won a few times there. He was very good on a road course. I don't think anyone was in Tim Richmond's class at that place.

Davey going for the million dollars in this race.

But davey lost the million he pitted before the rain he could have hired stevie wonder as crew chief
@bbigjohnson0696 жыл бұрын
@@tarheelking2515 A few years ago Larry McReynolds, Davey Allison's crew chief, explained what happened. He said before deciding to pit or not he sent a crew member over to check the doppler radar and see if rain was close. If it was they were going to stay out on the track. If not they would pit. The crew member came back and said it looked good so they pitted. When it started raining McReynolds said to the crew member, "I thought you said it looked good." The crew member replied, "It did, the screen was all green."

@@bbigjohnson069 your kidding me....
@bbigjohnson0695 жыл бұрын
@@charliesmith5545 Not kidding. That's what McReynolds said years ago. DW also mentions it similarly in his book. Here's a Waltrip story for you. When Waltrip started his career in the mid 70's, women were not allowed in the pits. But car owners were. So Waltrip put his wife , Stevie, down as the car owner. Late in a race at Talladega, Waltrip was having a good run and was due for a pit stop. Stevie figured he had to be hungry. So when he pits she hands him a ham and cheese sandwich. When the jack drops he takes off and throws the sandwich out the window leaving Stevie confused because "he likes ham and cheese." Then several years ago during a race on FOX may have been the Coca Cola 600, I don't remember the driver that was leading but they were talking about him running the truck race and the race the day before etc. McReynolds had asked this driver if it was a problem driving in so many races. He said no but sometimes he got hungry. DW jumped in and said, "Maybe someone can get him a sandwich. Ham and cheese, right honey?" It was only funny to those who knew that story!

The 1992 Mountain Dew Southern 500 was the site of Darrell Waltrip's 84th and Final Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series win, as the race was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired via tape delay on the GMA Rainbow Satellite Television Network on September 7, 1992 at 2:30 P.M. following Goodyear NASCAR Today with Rico Hizon and Bobby Guanzon and preceding GMA Balita with Mike Lacanilao, Veronica Baluyut, Raffy Tulfo, and Alex Tinsay
