You need to get more EU imports and review them, and maybe share how EU imports are done?

My dad had the Polo G40, the hatch version of this. It was blue and slightly modified, it had 115bhp and that thing was so fun to drive!

Wow! As European citizen and fan of your channel, this was kind of the last car I expected to see on a test. Great review, as usual. Now, I got stuck thinking: why that former italian car has kind of a german front license plate?
@chriszbinden1740
@chriszbinden1740 Жыл бұрын
If the car had arrived with it’s Italian plates, I maybe would have kept it, but since VW is a German HQ company, vintage plates from Berlin it shall be - fortunately most cops here dont mess with foreign plates on the front

The front kind of looks like a Peugeot 205. I like the thick numbers/indices and thick needles on the gauges. It seems like trunk space came at the expense of back seat legroom. This looks like a fine little city car but the Golf is the lower limit of what we'll drive here in the US. I like how it looks a little more wagon-y than a Golf. I've seen a few newer Polos in the US, visiting from Mexico. It's quite a drive from Mexico to where I live and those are tiny cars. I've also seen a new Toyota Hilux with Mexican plates.

I love basic well designed small cars. My parents had an old 88 civic (which is a size larger but still fairly small for the US) It was manual EVERYTHING and was really great to drive. It was like driving a go-kart and you felt so involved with it even just driving to the grocery store. I wish more Americans embraced cars like this.

3:53 In the UK (at least) the radios were fitted by the supplying dealer. My (1993) came with a Panasonic CQ-K05FNV pull-out radio cassette. No RDS

Being lucky to have been in that car overseas, I would be confident in saying that would not have sold well here. Very similar to the VW Fox.

Even smaller and less powerful than a Fox, but quality and trim is a bit better. Ive owned both

Zack as an American living in Europe for quite some time the top of the range polo was the g40 and not the gt . It's powered by a 1.3liter supercharged engine making 115 HP. I owned a white 91 model. Interior build quality was shit so many squeaks and rattles but it was a fun and fast car easily hitting 130mph stock. Tell the owner of this gt that his bumper's front and rear are from a polo g40.
@aivaraslabokas7172
@aivaraslabokas7172 Жыл бұрын
But you should also know, that 1,3L engine, making 74hp is better than a 7,7L... The ratios of L/ hp is so wild between US and EU

If it has been imported from Italia,why does he have a German license plate on the front?? My only guess is because it's a VDub,& not Italiano??

Lifelong Volkswagen fan here in the Chicago suburbs. Have always wished I could buy a Polo. This latest generation is super sweet. Sad to see my brand pumping out SUVs. They have forgotten their roots

These were so common in my youth and now they’re getting rarer and rarer. Luckily they’re still cheap, so get one while you can. Personally I’d prefer the earlier, pre-facelift model.

The same owner had a pre-facelift 84 Polo as well, but sold earlier this summer. The fuel injected mk2f is a much better driving experience, just not as classic looking

I have a 2006 vw polo gti it has the 1.8t 20v engine similar to the mk4 golf gti engine has simple mods with a stage 2 tune so it’s at about 270hp which is quite fun in a light gripped up car

1:07 The 1.3 engine came in 3 variants. 55 bhp, 75bhp multipoint injection (the GT trim), and 115bhp supercharged (polo g40). The GT is pretty pokey, with a 0-60 time of 10 seconds, but the g40 does under 8.

Hey, greetings from Germany. The Polo from this era (internaly called 86c by the way) was available in 3 body styles. You got this, the "micro-wagon", then there's a hatchback/coupe version and it was even available as some sort of 2-door sedan (pre facelift only, sadly). You could also get it as the "G40" which had the same 1.3 litre engine, but with a turbo-supercharger-mix, making 115 hp. The GT is more or less the highest trim level, although it's missing the heated seat (yes, only driver's seat). Anyway there were some special editions with other colors and seats and stuff, for example the "genesis"-model hat a 6 speaker soundsystem and a subwoofer in the trunk. The radio shown in the video is an aftermarket one, just to answer that question.

My mom owned a 2001 Polo 1.0 L 🤦‍♂️ ... It was bare bones and only 50 horse power (no ac, crank windows, crank mirrors, only 3 door, no split rear bench, no remote locking, no ABS, no ESP... When VW sell something bare bones, it really is... Bare)... And that 1.0L engine was useless as a fly on an elephant's ass. Its max speed was 137kph (around 85ish mph) and it sounds like "just enough" since in Europe 130kph is max allowed highway speed BUT when you load up the 1.0L Polo it can barely go over 110kph (around-sh 65mph) and mind you that's around 5000rpm (as I recall the limitter was about 5500 rpm like a diesel car 😂😂😂). So if you wanted the engine NOT to blow up and if you wanted to hear your passengers speak, driving around 4000 rpm would net you about 90 kph which is semi territory so they start passing you on the highway... Oh what joy that 1.0L Crapenwagen was 😂😂😂😂

hm strange, coming from Germany, this is an old Numberplater from Berlin. Plus it is a very very old one. Around early 2000 Germany introduced new EU plates and these were fadet out bit by bit. You only see them today if its the first owner or it stayed in the same city and the number was taken over by the new owner. So I am kinda puzzled. I think the story is more, that the owner lived in Berlin Germany and made many trips to Italy / or just moving to Italy and non legal keeping the old Berlin plate on it. So yeah, it sounds kinda off :D

this is the MK2 Polo (face-lifted 1990) which came on the market in 1982, so by the early 90s it was an old car. G40 was the hot one.
