Surprise! It wasn't retired yet.
This truck has been #1 on my "to film" list for a very long time now. This is Daily's last resort spare that only runs a couple of times a month. I have gone to the Daily yard at 5 am to wait for this truck to leave more times than I can count, but it has never left. In fact recently it has been 2-3 times I week that I wait for it at the Daily yard. In all of those times that I have tried to film it, it has only been out of the yard 2 other times, and I wasn't able to find it either of those times. I almost gave up on it recently because they put an "out of service" sticker on the windshield shortly after the first time I saw that it had been running. About a week after that I noticed they removed the out of service sticker, and parked it back in the middle of the yard so I decided not to give up. I'm so thankful that I didn't give up because now I can FINALLY say that I have footage of this truck. On this day I thought I would try to go into the office at the yard to ask someone about this truck and right as I was parking in their parking lot, I saw this truck move forward over the fence. I thought it was to good to be true and that it was probably just being moved up into the shop, but I drove around to where the trucks leave and saw this heading right out the exit to the yard. From there I just followed it to route and everything went perfect. I couldn't believe my luck that I happened to arrive there right when he was leaving the yard at 9 AM. He was just going to help on a route for about 2 hours too because many of there trucks were down. If I arrived to the yard just 2 minutes later I wouldn't have been able to follow him to route. So needless to say, after so much bad luck with this truck, I had a whole lot of good luck all at once.
This truck definitely lived up to all of my expectations. It sounds amazing, and the driver sure knew what he was doing. I absolutely love the look of this body, and for it's age Daily sure keeps it looking and running great. Everything about this truck is the epitome of Socal in the 90's. It was great to get taken back in time with this beast. Whenever I think of Daily Disposal, this is the truck that I think of because just a few years back this was one of the only Daily trucks they had a bunch of pictures of on the internet. This is one of the first Daily Disposal trucks that I ever saw a picture of.
Of course a huge thank you to this amazing driver for putting on such a great show. He even dumped all of the cans in the cab and revved it nicely just for the video, rather than using the idle external controls.
A shout out to Mike too because he's tried to track down this truck just as much as I have, and has spent just as much gas money trying to film this thing. Unfortunately he wasn't able to be here to film this beast with me after all of that effort.
I really hope you all appreciate this one because this took a lot of effort to bring you this video. This was probably some of the most fun i've had filming a truck.
