The robot and the bazooka guy can shoot projectiles. It was so much fun playing shmup in beat 'em ups.

The SNES game took place in San Francisco. Norton was named after Emporer Norton I, who has a plaque dedicated to him at the Golden Gate bridge. He was the Self-proclaimed Emporer of America.

Norton was also named after two wrestlers. As far as I know, one of them is Rick Steiner, and the other is named Norton (I don't know his surname sorry).
Interesting beat e'm up. The guy looks like Kyo Kusanagi from King of Fighters.

The funny thing is... Norton came before Kyo. (Rushing Beat is from 1992, The King of Fighters came two years later.) To be fair, Norton owes more to Ryo Sakazaki, as both Art of Fighting and Rushing Beat have a plot of a kidnapped younger sister (Maria and Yuri) and both final bosses of the games are actually their fathers (Kintark and Takuma). Even more interesting is the fact that both Kyo and Norton have to deal with their fathers in the last moments of the game (Kyo fights Saisyu in KOF 95 as a sub-boss, while Kintark is the final boss of the first Rushing Beat game). At least Saisyu is still alive, while Kintark is dead) Last, but not least, during the first game, Norton dresses like Terry Bogard. Coincidence or not, the first Rushing Beat game is likely the inspiration for Art of Fighting.

Also, here is a pro tip for you, Replay Burners. I did this when I played (Rival Turf 3:) The Peace Keepers, so I am sure that it will also work on Rushing Beat Shura/Syura, but anyway, when you face Bart/Connor or McCoy/Jesse, you can practically stop them in an infinite combo loop and win the stage that way. What you do is you simply take either one of them, go to the left or right side of the screen, do the hold and combo thing, knock them into the air, punch, grab, do the combo again, then you simply wash, rinse, and repeat.

Maybe it's more or less how FF sequels would have looked if they were in the arcades instead of snes

I played Rushing Beat Shura the time SNES was in its golden times. My best friend and I spent so many hours playing it and it just became a classic for us. Then, many years later, I just listened to some familiar BGM... and that was true! Rushing Beat Ran was there, playing that music, with new characters and old ones making cameos... Build at 1st stage geving clues, Norton as a secret character, Lord J now renamed Yamaoka as a boss and even Wendy at Elfin's ending. And different routes, secret characters and a Versus Mode and Color Edit and Name Edit. This game is gold and remember us that sequels can be indeed worthy to the crown. JALECO made some great games with great soundtracks! Dead Dance... Ah...

3 games in the series. All had different names in the west. Rival Turf, Brawl Bros. (On Switch Online), and Peace Keepers.

I played the SNES version of this, I guess the bootleg aspect is that it has no credits. The real Game gives you 20+, single lives but you have plenty.

Man. What the hack this word (bootleg) means aftet all?
@X2011racer2 жыл бұрын
The Bootleg allows as many credits as you want as long as you insert coins.

Nice gameplay ^^ I though that the super of the final boss was unblockeable lol I was playing wrong then xD Is a shame that in the english version for SNES they changed the characters portraits and removed that nice bgm :'v

Is Nornton from Rival Turf originally?
@Chriggan24 жыл бұрын
@Tiztu He was always Norton in the original version. Rushing Beat, Rusging Beat Shura and Rushing Beats Ran were always a trilogy, but released in USA as 3 different games, thus these characters were renamed too.

Awesome, thank you for clearing that up. Used to ply Rival Turf a lot. The rage special was awesome as a mechanic. Really had that anime "final attack" feel to it.
