@@bondedstars - I’ve read and heard others (such as Car and Driver) clocking in around the mid-to-high 7’s. Either time is still impressive when you consider (1) these things weight over two tons and (2) the LT1 in the Cadillacs (260 hp) were detuned compared to the Corvette (300 hp).

@@777jones You’re right, they tested a Buick Roadmaster and a Chevy Impala SS instead of the Fleetwood, all of which share the same platform (B-platform) and drivetrains (LT1, 4L60E automatic). Despite some minute difference in weight and packaging (the Roadmaster struggles with the tires it had), they’re all essentially the same vehicle.

My dad's last Caddy purchase was a '96 burgundy Brougham, fully loaded. The car is still in my garage till this day and I get offers to buy it every single time I take it out, maybe 6-8 times a year. With the LT1, those things were sleepers of the day, yet offered a ride quality that is sorely missed in today's world of "luxury". Imagine if Cadillac built a modern Fleetwood?? Maybe the Celestiq will be that vision.

The end of an era, the last of the full frame rear wheel drive land yachts of yesteryear. In my humble opinion the land yachts of yesteryear were GM's golden years. Those old caddies were super comfy, best described as a living room on wheels. When I was in third grade till around age 15 my Uncle owned a 1990 Cadillac Brougham, with the trailer towing package. He had a pretty good sized camper at the time and, I recall falling asleep like a baby on the way to the campgrounds, which was a few hours away I think. Didn't even know you were pulling the camper unless you looked behind :) Sure, I love the new Escalade but so far out of my budget I'll likely never own one😖 which is the modern day equivalent of these giant American luxury cars that once ruled the roads and were a sign you made it, still the big SUV'S don't quite have the same feeling as a full size 6 passenger cars from a bygone time.

Ummm the Town Car does not have a harsher ride and a smaller interior. The suspension on a Town Car without the HPP is much softer than the Fleetwood. The Town Car may have only a 5,000lb towing capacity but that 4.6 is more powerful and outperforms that 350 all day long. 185hp for the 350 V8 vs 190hp for the single exhaust 4.6 and 210hp for the dual exhaust 4.6. Quicker to 60 by 2 full seconds, the Lincoln blows the doors off that Caddy.

Don't knock it, that engine was no slouch. Granted, it wasn't a rocket ship by any means, but that wasn't the point of the car. The power band was smooth, and the torque would snap your neck back into the soft leather seats. Not to mention how incredibly reliable that motor was. Every sensor on that could go out, but as long as the engine had fuel, air, and a spark, it was start every time.

Big road barges will always exist because there will always be a portion of the population that is rich enough not to care about how much they consume or how much it costs. Nowadays, you see it more in gigantic luxury trucks, especially those that cost $80k and the owners have invested (wasted) another $15k in lift kits, giant wheels and tires, removing emissions equipment, adding nuisance lights, train horns, etc. 8 MPG? Coal from the exhaust pipe? Perfect!

These car manufacturers politely excuse the factor of ego, when they design a car. They want everyone to be on the same page, and it just wont happen. When things don't go their way sales wise. They manufacture a stupid excuse for why they are failing...."Oooh, EvErYBoDy WaNtS a CrOssOvEr" pathetic, and uninspired throwaways.

The majority of Cadillac Fleetwood and Buick Roadmaster buyers in the 90s were WWII veterans buying their last car for their retirement, with the vision of traveling during their final years, which these land yachts got a 5 star rating for. Also, the more advanced and fuel efficient Japanese & German luxury imports that became popular in the 80s for the younger affluent buyers were often left a sour taste in the mouths of the G.I. generation considering they fought against the Germans and Japanese, at least that's how it was for my grandma and grandpa, who both served our country during WWII, every vehicle they've owned was one of the big 3, mostly Mopar from what I've been told. .

How should success be measured? Should a manufacturer never miss? 2 bad decades or maybe 5? I agree with your sentiment, but speaking from a "sub culture" point of view these cars represent something else beside retirement or gangsta culture...hell, maybe a bit of both, interesting stuff.

I love these cars must have E.S.P. was thinking to myself hope motorweek do a review of the 93 Fleetwood got my wish. My aunt and I used call these the Preacher's car usually pastors drive these in my small town had few were pastors drove these. This and the Roadmaster were my favorite cars looked stylish and was definitely safe read a review of one when someone had one got into a wreck with another (smaller car) the people in the Fleetwood walked away unharmed the Fleetwood didn't get messed up as bad unfortunately other was destroyed the passenger died and driver of other car was serious hurt show how safe these cars were. They are rare now haven't seen one of these big floaters in years now.

Even well into the 90's, 5.7 V8 only meant 185 bhp, 0-60 10.5 seconds, brisk ????, a 7000 lbs towing capacity, it would be funny watching somebody trying to tow that much with one of these , 0-60 in 2 days and 3 stops to the gas station trying to get there, that soft suspension, with 7000 lbs on back , it would be dragging its arse around, well I suppose it would be just like having 6 500 lbs yanks squeezed into it, all sat scoffing cheese burgers
@TeeroyHammermill

I think it would tow 7000 lbs just fine. They tested a stock Fleetwood with stock running gear. The tow Package changes the game performance wise. Heavy duty suspension, bigger brakes, heavy duty cooling, 3.73 rear end gears. Them 3.73s wakes these up like you wouldn't believe.

'93-96 models have the highest tow rating of a passenger car (excluding trucks and vans) when factory equipped (Caprice and Roadmaster were 2,000 lb less at 5,000). August 1993 Popular Mechanics has a road test of the Fleetwood Brougham's towing capacity. In exterior dimensions the final generation was similar to the 1965 models in length (but larger in interior).

Like they say, they don't build them like they used to apparently.. not if a Cadillac sedan can pull more than a Toyota Tacoma truck

Those last gen Fleetwoods were hideous-looking. The 1987-1992 Fleetwood Brougham was more attractive, while the last gen looked like a car only a great grandparent would own. The interior on the 1993 looks so cheap. The second gen Town Car had a much more modern contemporary design vs the 1993 Fleetwood.

My last car was a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, my current car is a like new 2011 Lincoln Town Car bought from an elderly couple living in a retirement community with only 37K miles on it. I intend for it to be my last car. Since it is based on the Panther platform, parts will be available for it for the rest of my life.

Had a fully-loaded 93 Brougham in triple black. Everything was fine until the 70K mile mark, when GM B-bodys just plain start falling apart. Same thing happened to the 93 Caprice I had previously, right around the same mileage mark. I understand the newer powertrain they got with the LT1 V8 from 94-96 is better all-around, both performance and reliability, but I never found one of those in decent enough shape to buy, and both the 93's I had were mechanical nightmares, so I switched to Ford Panthers. Not as distinctive or decadent by a longshot, but they're lightyears more reliable. and much cheaper to fix when they do break.
