I think the TV is on the wrong channel for the VCR, VCR out is usually on TV2 or TV4, looks like you are watching a harmonic channel, maybe on UHF. CRT size is always measured diagonally, this is from the days when CRT's were always round and diameter was the accepted size. I enjoy watching the channel, keep the old tech alive !

That’s a nice tv. I miss those CRT’s. You can buy a HDMI to coax adapter, RCA plug to coax also. Those old sets are so reliable and rarely ever break, unlike the cheap crap today. Take me back to 1994!

It’s a thirteen-inch, TV screens always measured diagonally corner to corner. Almost every TV old or new will also have the size as part of the model number 🙂

You're 100% correct that Magnavox was a brand of Phillips, I think they still are as well! I recently picked up this exact TV from a garage sale, it's newer than what I usually pick up (I usually only go 1980 and before for TVs), but I needed a TV for a monitor at my work (part of my job is archiving VHS tapes and DVDs at a TV station). It's been a very nice set so far! Nice find!

I have a Mitsubishi TV kinda like this one from around 1986-87, and it too is coax-only. However that hasn't stopped me from enjoying it. An RF modulator helps a ton with these kinds of TVs.

3:39 I actually have had 3 CRT's which say "Manufactured in Mexico". Sometimes, when they say "Manufactured", they mean assembled - assembly was really commonly done in Mexico because Mexican workers could easily match the quality of assemblers in East Asia, but were cheaper. I've also seen CRT's manufactured/assembled in Indonesia, India, Malaysia...

That's a cute little TV! I have a Sharp TV that's the same size, and it's also coax only. I got it when I was little. I'm pretty sure my grandparents had a TV just like this. It had the same remote, at least. I get scared of CRTs too sometimes. They tend to make weird noises when you turn them on, especially newer ones that go BZZT! when you turn them on. :P Fun fact: The model number usually starts with the size of the TV. I used to have a 14" Toshiba 14AF41 for example. My 20" Trinitron is a KV-20FS100, the 20 of course being the size. It's probably not always like that but it usually is.

My parents bought me a 13in Magnavox for my room in maybe 1994 or 95. It was probably the model that came out right after this one because it even had the same remote. Our childhood home had one those BIG roof antennas that could be remotely rotated to aim it to where the local broadcast transmitters were and since my parents got the cable for their tv's, I got the antenna. It had exceptional range though, in the metro Detroit area I could easily pull in all the stations from Windsor Canada and even some in Ohio. Those little notches on the back above and to the left of the sticker are where the rabbit-ears that came with the TV would clip on for that complete look. :3 I'm pretty sensitive to that high voltage CRT whine as well; I could often hear my parents big Sony TV from another room, but my little Magnavox wasn't so bad. The last CRT I had was a 20in flat tube Toshiba from right before HDTV really jumped off and it squealed so loud.

The first piece in my retro tech collection was a 9 inch Zenith TV VCR combo. God that thing freaked me out! The sound it made being turned on and off, the ozone scent to it and half the buttons not working, UGH DX After barely being able to watch the first Titanic cassette on it I ended up getting rid of it which I kinda regret seeing as it probably just needed an inside dusting and a universal remote to program to the TV and VCR which both worked great! As for the sound, I learned that that was just normal! (But hey all the CRT experience I had was at my grandparents’ house and that thing was always tuned to QVC, PBS, Hallmark or History Channel… they had one in their living room up until 2019) Anyway that’s a really cool set! I have a similar one but it’s Orion! Definitely keep it as a cable set like you said! I probably sound like a broken record but those might be able to connect to cable without a converter box! As for the VCR, tune the TV to channel 3 or for to get it to show up! Also, they used to make coaxial cables that would just slip over the input and not be screwed in! I’m sure if you poke around on eBay or a thrift store you could find one for a couple bucks! Great video as always!

You could use a dim bulb tester for powering up unknown devices - if shit happens, the bulb will just light up limiting the current and preventing damage. If you need to use coax, use as short as practically possible and don't coil it. Fine-tune the frequency in the OSD menu. I'd try modding the TV to accept composite video, but that's just me...
