I just read about the incident and came on here to watch it. I thought Ginola would have made some really embarrassing mistake, but it was just a bad cross. Hardly a French player was there to help anyway, all probably playing the time, still they couldn't stop the Bulgarian counter-attack (which was impressive). Pretty unfair to Ginola to say the least. What a loser of a coach to go out and blame his own failures on Ginola in public.

No offence meant, but the complete over reaction to this single mistake by Ginola was very French. Houlier was a great manager in many ways but disgraceful in the way he treated Ginola, at least from the outside looking in. It was an absolutely outstanding goal and the cross itself was one part of what went wrong. It was a bad cross, big deal. It's quite something to see a young Ginola and Cantona in the same team, realising they would both be, in effect, exiled from the French team in a matter of 2 years or so. It's remarkable that France won a world cup in 98 on the back of their implosion around this time (The coming of age of all those outrageous talents in the team did help of course). The double edge sword that is French Flair.
