Both teams starting running backs played at least 5 seasons for the Raiders, with a two year overlap in 1999 & 2000 when Wheatley & Kaufman formed a thunder & lightning combo for the then Oakland Raiders

Ah yes! What a game! Remember when college football telecasts and announcers would be quiet after tds and going into commercials so we could hear the fight songs! Gave a bit more of the college experience opposed to the pop songs played over the bands now! Hail to the Victors sound GREAT!

Derrick Alexander is one of the most underrated and forgotten Michigan greats. He was absolutely electric as a returned and WR. Also, Marquise Walker is my other favorite "forgotten" great Michigan WR.

I’m a lifelong Ohio State fan and alum, and I have to admit some of those Wolverine teams of the late 80’s to the late 90’s were tough and intimidating. They played with a lot of pride. But since then something just seems to be missing. Even with their win over my Buckeyes in 2021. It’s as if current Wolverine players aren’t cognizant of the tradition and history of the program they represent.

@@babykevinxoxo That's because they lost their entire starting defensive line from the year before which had Steve Emtman, the Outland Trophy winner and the top overall pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. The 1991 Huskies were the top overall ranked defense in the country in 1991. But they lost a lot of their defensive players from that team to the NFL and to graduation.

30:41 After frustrating the U-M defense all game with his scrambling, Brunnell was finally caught. And Dyson didn't take out his frustrations on Brunell. He went out of his way to make it a clean hit. Notice his arms extended on the sack to catch his weight, instead of just falling on the QB

Interesting to watch this game after all this time, and the two intervening national championships. Funny thing, I remember Grbac as being an excellent passer. Watching this game, he looked terrible. Missed multiple open receivers. I speculate there were rule changes between then and now that limited contact. Fun game though. I couldn’t remember who won, so it was like watching anew.

That’s funny. Mark Brunell was the best player on the field that day and had the best pro career. 300 yards that day. The reason the huskies lost is that they really didn’t respect Michigan and thought they could just show up and having beat them so badly the year before. In fact, if Jason Shelly doesn’t drop the pass. It’s another Husky victory with a just kind of show up we got this attitude. The coaches were so pissed at the lackadaisical attitude they addressed the team again the night before. To be frank, the huskies were stunned they lost to a slow plodding Big 10 team they humiliated the year before. Michigan being motivated by the embarrassment the year before came in ready to play. Tip of the cap. The Huskies were coming into that game chasing history. First team in history to be eligible to win three straight Rose bowls. Tough to three peat. Something Michigan despite their history has never accomplished. Most fans and players of the era didn’t respect the Big 10. That perception still persists today. The lone exception being Ohio State forces a re-evaluation.

Strange summary. Wheatley runs for over 200 yards. Washington had probably 140 yards offense in the second half, scored 10 points. Usually, the team that shows up with no focus wakes up in the second half and asserts itself, kind of the opposite here. And Brunell led two last ditch drives to the glorious total of 0 points, with his last 6 passes incomplete and one ill-advised run that fell short of a 1st on 4th down. Best player on the field should probably win the game for his team, no?

"Weatley with a crease......" Of course I didn't hear Brent say that and other similar things in Real Time because I was there. My 2nd Rose Bowl (1989 and this classic). Both were dominated by Michigan's running game (Leroy Hoard in '89 and Tyrone Wheatley in this one) and both Wolverine wins. I was stoked man. And I was still stinging from 1992 and that Garcia doing a shitty Heisman pose mocking Desmond Howard. We were walking out the tunnel behind a bunch of dejected Husky fans. Maybe it was bad form on my part or maybe not, but I thought Garcia's lousy pose the year before was totally classless as was the commentators' talking it up. I was giddy after the great Michigan win and I could not hold it in! I knew these Washington people could hear me and I just let it fly : "I hope that Garcia JACKASS is CHOKING on his own VOMIT!!!!!!" The Washington people just looked straight ahead and kept on walking. They could have been the same folks who saw my Michigan sweatshirt on the way in and asked me what a "...Wolverine (was), anyway?" I just said "...one nasty beast."' I suppose I should not have cracked off the vomit comment at the Washington fans after the game. After all, they weren't responsible for a Washington player being totally classless the year before. Some Michigan fans in the tunnel started singing The Victor's I think and we all joined in.

The huskies lost because Michigan had over 300 yards rushing. 235 yards by the MVP of the game Tyrone Wheatley who was 15 for 235. Easily the best player on the field that day. Plus Washington was not the same team as the previous year. Washington was 9-2 going into the game and Michigan was 8-0-3. They just were not the same teams. Huskies were favored by a point or 2 in this one. The year before the -7 point favorite over Michigan and 9.5 over Iowa the year before that. So this game in 1993 was a toss up and that is how it played with all the lead changes. Plus Michigan was much faster from the year before. Then Washington gets hit with sanctions soon after this and James retires from coaching .

Yeah man. The @Rouche person is on Blotter. Has to be, especially to come in here spewing such Bull.... Btw, Brunell doesn't suck. He already had Rose Bowl wins. He was thrown into this one and performed admirably. No he wasn't the best player on the field that day. Michigan's QB Grbec was a veteran and played like one. It was his last game. No one will come close to ranking among the best on the field that day. But he played as a leader, and took care of the football. Elvis led some key drives and led (directed) the Michigan Band in Hail To The Victors after the game.
