Crimson Tide Zone

10 жыл бұрын

This was the culmination of a perfect regular season for Alabama. Yet they faced a seemingly insurmountable task in taking on the Miami Hurricanes at the peek of their dynasty run. But looks can be deceiving. Lead by head coach Gene Stallings, protege of the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant, legacy and destiny was on the side of the Crimson Tide. Alabama throttled the Miami Hurricanes from start to finish, taking every punch they threw and throwing back twice as hard. In the end the Alabama Crimson Tide shocked the world and toppled the Hurricanes and claimed yet another National Championship.

I've watched a lot of football in my 61 years, but George Teague running down that Miami receiver and taking the ball away from him. Ive never seen anything like that, either before that game, or since then. The way Teague turned on the after burners and caught up to that guy, and then stole the ball from him ? That was absolutely incredible.

Interestingly, Alabama played in the first Playoff game - the 1992 SEC Championship Game. They played in the first Bowl Coalition 1vs2 game - this Sugar Bowl. And, Alabama played in the first college football playoff game vs Ohio State in 2014.

I wasn't there for this game but I was old enough to appreciate how well Bama played and was coached, Miama was clearly out coached and out played. Miami made fun of Bama and thought they had it won before they even played the game but game dominated and Gino said " the second half was just a blur to him"! There's a rule in college football that when the player with the ball loses progress the play is called dead. The qb jumped at the 1 yard line meaning he could not pull himself backwards into the endzone, it was the Alabama defender who did that. It was the right call. But everyone hates Bama? Please. That "running into the kicker" call was complete B.S. That was clearly roughing the kicker. Don't whine when the bias is in your favor

We got upset that year by a team that lost there first two games of the season and one of them was to us 36-6. They got back at us and beat us 11-6 in the Super Bowl. I was crushed. And then my Miami Hurricanes get crushed by this incredible Alabama defence. It was a double wammy for me. forgot how big the late 80's/early 90's shoulder pads were...#45 Lynch had huge ones but even the "deuce" David Palmer as a WR and kick returner had pads making him look 30 pounds heavier---great game and brings back memories of Keith Jackson!

"The game demoralized Miami for seasons to come." More bullshit. 2 years after this game, Miami was hit with 2 years of probation by the NCAA for lack of institutional control. Dennis Erickson quit, Butch Davis was hired, Miami had to skip 2 bowl games in the mid-90s, but worst of all was the loss of scholarships that made it rough during 95, 96, 97 and 98. By 1999 Miami upset #1 UCLA, by 2000 Miami finished #2 overall, and by 2001 Miami was national champion with what even today is undisputably regarded as the greatest college football team ever assembled.

They were also way too cocky before playing Penn St. in 87' Fiesta Bowl. That and all the turnovers are why they lost that one. Idk if Miami was actually the better team in this game (probably not), but they DEFINITELY were better than Penn St.

Everyone needs to get off of Jay Barkers back and let it go. The Offense they had was built around the running game. Not even Peyton Manning would have gotten a lot of passing yards with that Offense. And also in Barkers "Defense" when a Offensive line cannot keep the Defensive line off the Quarterback during passing situations then there definitely will not be very many passing yards. No, the Offensive line is who I blame for them being so inept most of the time along with the pathetic Offensive play calling by the OC.

Richt, while being a good coach, is not a killer. I think a lot of it depends on the money they throw at updating all of their facilities. They will need top notch stuff to recruit like they would have too to regain relevance. Again, their coach lacks the "killer" side that recruits can feel when they meet the person. Like you, I sincerely root for a massive failure.
