If you've ever wondered how to rebuild your calipers, but never wanted to because it seemed difficult, well I'll show you how easy and inexpensive it is.
Refurbished calipers are approximately $100-$150. Seals for both rear calipers are only approximately $15 from O'Reilly Auto Parts. The front Calipers rebuild kits are even cheaper!
Keep in mind all rear calipers are the same for V6, GT, and Cobra. The difference from Cobra and GT/V6 are the rotors, brake pads, and caliper mounting brackets.

Use a 3/8 drive socket 11/16" inverted, square center over shaft, on the screw shaft and that will eliminate most of the wobble. This is a painfully long explanation, but it's generally spot on, but making a tool for compressing the spring is overkill.

I'm doing a Cobra caliper swap on my '01 GT. I had to get my calipers to the powder coater yesterday, and this video saved me from having to delay the drop off day to today. Thank you!

Can u eliminate the emergency brake feature to make things easier?

I did everything else but get the boot to seat back into the caliper with the piston. I wish you should how you installed the piston with the boot without tearing it. Correct me if Im wrong, but doesnt the lowest lip of the boot sit in the same recess as the piston seal? How can you be sure the boot is in there and wont pop back up wit the piston when its moving out fro the brakes being pressed?

Sorry for the late response, I didn't know I had a question about this. So all I did was set the boot in the groove of the caliper and slid the other end of the boot on the piston, then pushes the piston down on the caliper housing. Look at the last pictures on this tread to get an idea of what I'm talking about. @@LSFoxbody no worries man and thank you for the reply. Good video and that is a good link for what I needed to know. I actually came across that write up and used that along with your video to finish the job. I was putting it in right and just didnt fully trust how it sat on there, but I got it right the first time rebuilding my pair and they have been working great with no leaks for several months now.

The piston will not seat all the way in. So in essence, the boot will sit fully on the caliper and on the piston. When looking at the caliper, with the piston in it, it will look like the piston is raised just a bit. Therefore the bot seals both ends.

How do you get that Ebrake spring back on? That little POS has my unborn child’s college tuition, wedding, and family vacation paid for with the amount of swearing I’ve been doing!!!

Guess it's too late by now but you can compress it in a vice and use a STRONG zip tie to hold hit. You just cut the zip tie after it's in place. I saw some people using hanger wire too.

@@acontant80 HAHA. If I do recall correctly, not too long after posting this comment I just got some vise grips on really tight and pushed with all my might and got it in. Thanks for checking and the advice though.
