They sure don't make'em like that anymore. Love that engine, Common place throughout the UK to have AECs at one time with one model or another.

Lovely D166 box and listen to that 590 - just as nice as the day I rode around Derby in it, when she was the training bus, thanks to licencing officer Mr. Alefounder - magic!

Interested to know more about AEC gearboxes - would you say the D166 is one of the most musical? Certainly sounds it here! I first noticed transmission sounds as a kid visiting Sheffield in the late 1960's and riding on their Regent's, such a beautiful whine, especially when climbing the city's steep hills. Would they be fitted with the same box?

Very surprised to see how the busses were driven then as i mean stering wheel and gears so small compared to now you cant get behind the seats looks like thats just a kids toy and noisy😮
