@@wx4newengland The Minidisc was not a popular option. Sony was trying to shake down both manufacturers of players and media producers for license fees (just like what happened with the Betamax and the Sony Memorystick). Additionally it had copyprotection built in, which meant that you couldn't record your own media to it without an expensive recorder hardware and again paying license fees to Sony. Affordable CD-burning was still a few years away, and the MP3 player a few years further out. USB and Bluetooth wouldn't get sorted out until the end of the 90s.
@UmmYeahOk2 жыл бұрын
@@houseofno yeah, they tried to revive the minidisc with PSP UMDs. All PSP games came on UMDs, and naturally all Sony movies and televisions were released to UMD as portable video entertainment. Other studios ended up releasing some as well. This was during the BluRay/HD DVD format wars, so after losing out to VHS, Sony put more focus into winning that battle. What’s sad is their greed involving portable music. They had dominated the market with their Walkman, and later, Discman, but once digital music became a thing, Sony did not want to release a portable MP3 player. They had a music label division, and feared that this would promote illegal downloads of their music. But CD burners were now a thing, so portable CD players that could read 700MB data discs with MP3s could out handle the more expensive 64MB Rios and such. Apple released theirs, and even Microsoft tried with their Zune. But once iPods became the standard and digital music became more legal to obtain, Sony released a player, only it was too late.

Crazy to think that the 1964 Mustang in 1994 is almost the same age as a '94 mustang today, yet we still look at the '64 as a classic the same way we did in '94, but we don't really call the '94 a "classic" today. It's still somewhat modern.
@houseofno3 жыл бұрын
The 1964 car is very attractive, but mechanically, it's a deathtrap and a rust magnet waiting to happen. No seatbelts, no padded dash or steering wheel, and in some cars, severely inadequate drum brakes easily overpowered by as much as 271 horsepower from a K-code 289 V8. The 1994 car is still an attractive car, and your chances of surviving a collision in a 94 car go up considerably compared to it's three decades older counterpart. Additionally, that '94 car is far more likely to still be structurally sound after three decades, even with some undercarriage rust.

I remember when these hit the streets and it was an overnight hit! Female buyers who never considered the previous Fox body flocked to Ford(ironic given this was just a new body on a Fox🤣). But it did allow Ford to really start to push the styling envelope of the Mustang. Many purist thought of it to be a new Probe when it came out due to the round and curvy styling(and the fact that Ford wanted to kill the Mustang in favor of keeping the Probe to better compete with the smaller and cheaper Japanese entrants of the day), but the Mustang, again, had staying power(they also wanted to kill it in the 70s as well).

The move to the Pinto platform was a very unpopular one, but it did save the car. It didn't help the Mustang II win any friends among enthusiasts that the V8 was unavailable during the II's first year (1974), nor that the V8 car gained some very unattractive, longer front fenders needed to accommodate the 302. Enthusiasts issues with the Probe were three fold: 1) it was very unpopular with American consumers that the car's future was being put in the hands of a Japanese manufacturer (Mazda) who had very little understanding of the Mustang's ponycar traditions (V8 power, rear drive, as well as the car's signature styling cues); 2) Enthusiasts did not want the Mustang to ditch its V8 or its rear drive layout, and 3) the Probe looked NOTHING like the Mustang it replaced.

Not really a fair fight. Even the Fox LX 5.0L was only around 150 to 200 pounds lighter than the Fox GT. The LX's 5.0L main claim to fame was a sticker a few thousand dollars less than a GT's, despite being mechanically identical cars. An '89 is also not saddled with the later car's driver's side airbag, slightly heavier sound deadening, and a slight weight boost from a tiny increase in the wheelbase. That race is too close to call. Either car could win based on better driver reflexes alone, as their other numbers were just too close to call.

I had a 98GT and loved it. To bad most parts on it had to be upgraded with aftermarket because Ford added to cheap of parts that would degrade or fail to early.

I had to search but it seems the hard top didn't make it in 1994 - it was delayed and apparently came as an option on the 95 Cobra. But I had no idea they were ever produced or offered. Same for the minidisk player - did any of them actually end up in a factory sold Mustang?
@VortexGarage3 жыл бұрын
Ok searched the minidisk player, seems they were available but prob quite rare!

I love the styling of this car. Many people don't, but i think its a really beautiful design. People complain about the SN95 being slower than camaros-firebirds of that era; of course, they used a 5.7! Imagine the disappointment at GM headquarters if it wasn't that way! Probably Ford used a 5.0 and latter a 4.6 because they were uninterested in what the competition is doing. They are right. Who cares GM and Chrysler?

I'm glad they didn't kill this off back in 1988. The looks of the 80s Mustangs weren't as sleek or sexy as the third-gen F-bodies, but the interior and ride of the Mustang were far better than the GM F-body. Sadly Ford botched the look of the car with the New Edge "update" for the 1999 to 2004 models, but won me back into the fold with the S197 2005 to 2009 car. The interior of the SN95 was definitely an upgrade over the 1987 to 1993 cars. That hardtop option didn't last long. Not only was it difficult to retrofit or swap into cars not previously ordered with the option, it was an expensive option (around $2,500 on top of the price of the convertible). Today it's extremely rare and very difficult to find.

New Edge is the best in my opinion. SN95 looks like a Japanese car.

The sn95 mustang doesn't get much love but I will say this is still a pretty mustang, prettier than the post 05 models (which still look basically the same even now)

Biggest complaint is why Ford never decided to make the 5.8 liter lightning v8 available in the gt the 93 z28 and ta had the 5.7lt1 and took over and when they replaced the good old 5.0 with the 4.6 when gm had upgunned to the ls1 it was no contest
@angelgjr19993 жыл бұрын
Hey man 4.6 still makes decent torque, I think Ford used it because it was easier to fit in the Fox platform, and it had decent gas mileage. I get 18.4 MPG mixed driving with some hard pulls! Impressive for a v8 sports coupe.

Man these cars were so damn slow I can't believe Ford would build such a car. It truly is inexcusable as GM released their Camaro and Firebird Formula one full year before this. Yes, I understand that it takes two years to push out a line of production cars but Ford should have attached at something bolt on to get them to at least 250hp. I'll tell you this, I might have purchased a Mustang as my first truly fast car had these vehicles been worth it. My father was driving a '95 Z28 convertible in 1995 that got me wanting one so badly. I was driving a '95 Ford Taurus SHO and traded it in for my 1994 25th Anniversary Trans-Am in 96. That car for the time period was just stupid fast and tore into any 94, 95, and 96 Mustang GT like they were nothing.
