My mini-30 is a stainless steel Ranch Model, made in about 1992. It’s never ever jammed when using (newer) Ruger 20- rnd OEM magazines. I’ve shot a few ammo cases through it and it’s always eaten everything. I shot Norinco steel cased ammo when it was available back in the 90’s and when it came in 1,600 rounds per wooden case. The only exception was when I used ProMag aftermarket mags is when I had some feeding issues. It makes a great camp carbine rifle.

Added a Mini 30 to my collection about three months ago. I love this rifle. I have run nothing but brass through it since I bought it, easily 2,500 rounds, not one misfire, misfeed, jam or anything. I have yet to find ANY private party video about the American made, Ruger Mini 30 that isn’t obsessed with steel case ammo. I totally get the appeal, and why it’s fun to try it with this “American AK” and try to find workarounds for steel. I guess my analogy would be trying to put dirty gas in a Porsche, maybe it will work and maybe it won’t, but why? Anyway, I love my Mini 30 and even the top end 762x39 is way less expensive than the 45-70 and 30-30 I am running through my Ruger Marlin 1895 SBL and Ruger Marlin 336. Not being critical, at all. I think it’s cool to tinker with hammer springs and whatever, but, for my own interests, I would like to see more videos demonstrating this beautiful rifle for what it is intended. By the way, by coincidence, I just acquired 500 rounds of that Belom. Glad to see that it works!👍

I have the same model in a 95' serial number. Installed a Wolf Hammer Spring and it shoots Tula flawlessly now. Which is also the most accurate I've used. Consistent 2" groups with iron sights at 50yrds. Good enough for Whitetail or defending the homefront.

Beautiful gun! The mini 30 gets a ton of bad press over the light primer strike issue with steel case berdan primed ammo. Honestly it’s an easy problem to fix. I have a 2021 mini 30 in stainless and black composite stock. I was having about 1 in 10 light strikes with steel case ammo. I replaced the hammer spring with a $8 Wolf spring and it took care of the light primer strike issue on berdan primers. I also put a Leupold scope on it and it’s now my favorite deer gun. Thanks for the video. Btw, if you want to run inexpensive brass case ammo I shoot Norma tactical fmj. It’s around $10 a box. Not as cheap as Tula but it runs great.

My Mini-30 also failed to fire steel case. I lightly filed the rear of the bolt (remove firing pin first) so the hammer gets better contact with the firing pin. Never had a misfire since. The primers on that Russian ammo is seated a little deeper, that’s all it is.

My yugo sks will eat anything steel cased. Does not matter which brand in the beginning I used brass cased and it did not like that ammo. Ever since then all steel case. Congratulations on that new rifle!

From what I could see a new firing pin spring should hit harder and solve the light primer strike problem. Military primers are harder and need a stronger firing pin strike to set them off consistently.

If you only used good ammo you may not need a new spring but for it to run reliably with all ammo. Better to change the spring.

Has anyone compared the accuracy of the "Tactical" version of the Mini's, which have a thicker 16.12" barrel, and the "regular" Ranch rifle with a skinnier 18.50" barrel?

Last round hold open is garbage though. It only hangs on the magazine follower. Makes it hard for the magazine to pull free, and bolt drops closed when you pull out the empty. 🤷
