In the summer of 1994, when I was ten, I flew out to Oregon to spend a few weeks with my cousins. My uncle told me he was going to pick me up at the airport in his new Kia. Being from the midwest, I hadn't heard of Kia yet, and I was imagining some sort of futuristic, super-technologically advanced car. Imagine my surprise when he picked me up in an absolute base model Sephia without even a radio...

Those guys at Callaway were ahead of their time with that V8 powered Miata at the 2:44 marker.
@bghoody56653 жыл бұрын
Not really sure I agree. The whole idea of the Miata is to be a light and nimble sportster that's good in the corners - adding a powerful V8 makes it more like a Viper. The guys at the Drive Tribe channel have a project going where they're dropping a V10 into it, but it's only 2 litres and the amount of power is not too crazy. So, it should be interesting.

From elementary to high school, even as an adult, it was an annual ritual for my dad and me to attend the LA Auto Show. I still have all the photos of us posing in the cool rides on display. My dad would sit and pose in the Dodge van conversion and I would sit and pose in a Mustang GT convertible, wishing we owned one (we both got what wanted eventually). The next Auto Show starts this Friday but the excitement is no more. Now I just watch Mecum Auto Auctions..

Like the mammals that eventually replaced the dinosaurs this was the Dawn of the Crossovers replacing cars. The Sportage was then called an SUV.
@DiRF3 жыл бұрын
The 1st gen Sportage being referred to as an SUV is appropriate, as it was still a body-on-frame truck (based on a Mazda microvan platform). It wouldn't become a unibody crossover (based on a Hyundai car platform) until later generations.

The fact that V8 Supercharged Miata even existed in 1994 is unfathomable, that platform was only 5 years old at that time, whoever did that probably pioneered the V8 Miata swap, and even if he didn't, props to him still, especially with this being pre LS.

That Mercedes-Benz diesel that they had introduced on January 4 of that year was actually introduced 10 days before I was born. It is definitely interesting to see the type of concept cars and such that they thought of back then. And on the other video of the Detroit auto show, they were debuting the Ford Windstar at the 1994 auto show and I actually owned one of those. Not the first year mine is a 98 model. But I do on an Isuzu Rodeo.
