I replaced my thermostat and housing and its still leaking. I can't wrap my head around it. New upper and lower heater hose too. Going to have to double check my work

Could be the sensor that checks coolant level. Its at the bottom of the resouvir and it leaks from bottom making it hard to see. That was my issue

Let me ask you a question I'm going to commit to do this myself and I believe I have the same car as yours a 1995 525i BMW but you said yours has a m30 motor

This one has the M50. Definitely a project that is doable. I would recommend getting the long wrench for the fan to get it off and help put it back on.

Hey man does a bad thermostat housing cause coolant to leak

In this case the gaskets for the housing could just have been replaced. I just replaced the housing because I already had it and it was clean. The original factory housing is plastic and those should be replaced if they are leaking or not just as preventive maintenance.
