The baking powder trick is used more to replace missing materials, or to fill in cracks rather than create a bond between two parts. You would also need to use watery, runny superglue that would be sucked into the baking powder, rather than the paste which just creates a big mess.

I had one of these when I was a kid back in the 90’s. I asked for it for my birthday. I didn’t think I would get one as they were so expensive and sold out everywhere at the time. I remember come my birthday my parents actually got me one! and my Aunt, who didn’t realise my mum was able to find one was also looking and got me one also! So for a short period of time I had two! One of them was returned to the store. I also remember I kept it for years, the wings broke in the same way! It used to sit in my shelf as a prized possession for years. When I moved out of my parents house I lost it!

We had a Buzz like that when we were younger! It must have been a later edition, though, because it had "Andy" painted on the bottom of one of the feet like in the movies. He didn't have enough range of motion for my tastes so we didn't play with him as much as other things.

One of my favorite toys as a teenager was a talking monster plush named Joey The Monster, which may be related to My Pet Monster, although he didn’t have chains. A month after I turned 17, he was among the toys my parents and I handed down to my then-3 year old cousin. Unfortunately, when we did, we found his voice box was no longer working! If we had tested him beforehand, we could’ve replaced the voice box with extra stuffing!

30 minute epoxy would work on that part.... Let it dry 24 hours.... I was gonna say, it'll be as strong as it ever was.... but, it broke in the first place. The baking soda is good, it will give some "filling" to the joint... In some cases, you can wrap it with thread, and then soak the thread with the CA glue.... That will dry very hard and pretty strong, and make the part much stronger than it ever was.... Or again, depending on what you're trying to do, wrap it with copper wire, and soak that with super glue... Obviously the glue won't soak into the wire, but it will surround the wire, and end up making a strong structural element.... Anyways, I love what you're doing... I found you from the repair challenge. I'm older than you. I gave my nephew that toy (or something similar) when he was very young, he loved it. I thought his Mother was going to murder me... the one I gave him had some kind of "sentry" mode, where you could set it to stand there, and if it sensed motion nearby, Buzz would start talking.... So my nephew read the instructions, and set him up like that, and went to school.... His Mother goes in his room to put his clean clothes away, and Buzz starts yelling at her.... Ooops. She was not happy about being scared to death by Buzz Lightyear....

I would suggest JB weld if plastic welding isn't enough. You could 3d print a part and use a high strength filament to make the part then if you felt that wasn't strong enough coated it with epoxy which would make it almost indestructible. Failing that you could prob fashion a part out of a length of aluminium and shaped with a file.
@fufhi31025 жыл бұрын
Nice project! The issues with glueing that part could be because of the used material. The plastics used for the body of Buzz is a common used one (I guess ABS), which is cheap, easy to mold, easy to bond, stuff like that - But its not good for the use of parts that get so much stress on it like needed for the springs in the wings. For that purpose they often use semi-crystalline plastics (something like POM, PA, PP) which are better for that use, not easy to mold and most important for that case, they´re not easy to bond with glue. Because of their sturcture they are self releasing to everything - also to glue, so it will just pop of when its dry - for that you´d need a special primer, for example formic acid which changes the surface of the material so its not self releasing anymore. For this project its too late, but maybe this is helpful for upcoming ones - keep up your work, its a pleasure to watch your videos ^-^

Superglue these days isn't very good for modern plastics, I can however recommend getting some thermoplastic like polymorph, as you could have also used that to create a new loop part or a ring to go over the original bit to hold it strong again. I've used it for lots of toy repairs now it's pretty good.

Táiron Amaral thats actually problematic. I have the same exact toy with the same exact issue. I ordered a few different 3d printed parts for it (different thicknesses, material) and they all broke instantly. There are pegs on either side that attach to the wings to pull or push them and they couldn’t handle the force of the spring when opening.

when you mix baking soda with super glue it makes it take up a lot more space so it's good for filling in empty space if you need it to, but the result is more brittle so it isn't as strong.
@Danny.._5 жыл бұрын
another thing you can do to repair plastic and actually make it even better is to just take a paperclip and put it on a battery to heat it up and sink it into the plastic. that way it holds it together and supports it from the inside. (this is more for bigger pieces of plastic though)
