My Dad and I were at this race! We left the hotel in Atlanta at 6am and my Dad said “it’s already hot out!” I remember getting some relief in the mist tents! We couldn’t touch the old metal seats after standing for the restarts! Great memories for sure!

No one could cover a race at Talladega better than CBS. The announcers let the race "breathe" at times so you could hear the cars roaring down the backstretch. Announcers today try to cram as many words in as possible.

A lot of drivers and commentators have passed. RIP I feel so old been following NASCAR for 40 years. You can almost hear those voices and racecars when you close your eyes.

I would much rather restrictor plate races be like this over the way they are nowadays. Now, you sit there, chewing your finger nails nervous that your favorite driver is gonna get taken out in a wreck that takes out 80% of the cars. Back in the 90s, the best car usually won the race.

I like these older races especially the bumpy talladega and Daytona but I know that if they were to have these type of restrictor plate races today, no one would like it cause the leaders are able to leave the pack and lap cars. The pack is dispersed. They are so use to 3 by 3 by 3 for hours on end.

Gordon took out both of his team mates. Bet Hendrick just loved that.
@gary24fan
@gary24fan 4 жыл бұрын
Gordon took a lot of shit for that deal (and still is based on your comment...uhhh time to let it go bud), but consider this was only his third full year in Winston Cup and he really was still learning the cars. The fact he won the championship that year, though I'm a fan of his, really was a bit of a fluke. Hendrick Motorsports hadn't planned on him becoming a real championship contender until about 1997 or 1998. But it's now 2020 so let's forget about it and move on. There are bigger things going on in our world right now.
@4fanintexas
@4fanintexas 4 жыл бұрын
Let what go? He made a mistake and took out both of his team mates. He felt bad about it... nothing intentional. No different than when Schrader and Rudd (might have been Bodine) took each other out at Martinsville around 1989 or so while both were driving for Hendrick. Not knocking Jeff, just saying Rick must've been a little upset losing 2 cars because of a crash caused by their team mate. Jeff is a legend and a proven champion. No bashing here... just made an observation.
