i agree with you.. it wasnt all gymnastics that killed her .. the judge told her she was too fat, just as in the real world when friends say "your too fat" she ran with it in her mind and the diasese took over but it wasnt gymnastics per say it was her own self image cmbined with gymnastics still really sad though

I've had that internal battle with myself too lol. Competed nationally when I was younger and I'm really not sure that I would want to be worrying about my kid, should they have the same talent I had.

Mary Lou, Kim Z, Kerri, and Shawn all had stockier bodies and were champs. Judges should judge on what someone does, not how they look. Anyone who has drive and determination can find a way to win. Look at Khorkina, and even Luikin. Proves bigger or smaller can both be competitive. Theres no need to change how you are.

She’s not wrong. She’s saying that there are different body types, and the pressure to turn yourself into something you’re not is unfair. Some gymnasts are more muscular and less lean…it gives them more power.

i am a gymnast too and i know that when i do gymnastics it scares my parents to death, so i try to go into their shoes and ask myself if i want my daughter to risk her life everyday if she does gymnastics.......HELL NO!!!!....i will never put my daughter or son in gymnastics, even if i do gymnastics.

Totally agree. I was a gymnast, not at the level of Christie, but I was very much into it and probably would have done ANYTHING had I continued. I did not. I was not blessed with children, but had I been, I would not allow gymnastics beyond a childhood level~~~ages 5-10. After that it is nothing but injuries and PRESSURES. As it is, I have many injuries from gymnastics. An arthritic spine being one of them.

It's sad that Christy let that one remark from that judge put her in her grave. She should've realized that she wasn't fat because she was at the right weight for her height.

Christy had more insecurity issues than just a judge telling her that she was a tad overweight. She was told to lose a few pounds, not to take it to the extreme!

As a parent there is no way in hell would I ship my daughter or son off to a gymnastics camp( or skating or any other sport) clear across the country in the hands of ANYONE coach, teacher or anyone without me being there. I do NOT care how talented my kid is. I'm going to move with them. I'm not blaming Mrs Heinrich at all. That's just what they did back then and still do to this day. FUCK THAT I'm the parent. I say what goes and doesn't go. We also have to remember that this level of competition isn't open gym day on Saturday. This is a hardcore life they live day in and day out. If you think your kid cannot handle it then take them out of it. Take them out kicking and screaming.

Yeh tough sport and the mental abuse on gymnasts. The bf still feels guilt that she would ask him how wrestlers lose weight and gave tips and she used it on on herself.

@mortella23 oh I can handle that, just keep the weight off by eating the right food and work harder, train at least 4 to 5 hours a day till a competion. I usta train very hard till lots of injurys from my head to my foot ended my gymnastic career, it very sad for to stop cuz I love the sport too much, gymnastics heavy price to pay but if you keep the dream alive any gymnast might get somewhere, i tried and failed... I hope that answer your question my dear gymnast.

I feel bad for Christy and what she went thru.. But her demons were her own and she was her worst enemy and so I feel for her on that. That being said she was an awful gymnast to watch and never was world class in my opinion.
