Gwen Torrence was the reigning Olympic champion at the time so no surprise she was wining 200m on the circuit in 1995.

Remember Gwen was DQ’s for running on the inner lane during ‘95 WC, Ottey won gold. People really don’t realize what a beast Gwen Was.

Gwen actually dominated the 200m in 1995. She won most of her races by large margins.

It should have been this order at worlds in Gothenburg also but Privalova go hurt in the last 50 over the 200m and had her wort start ever over the 100m and Ottey was vulnerable. Torrence clearly was unbeatable that year (despite her DQ at worlds).

Very strange to see privalova pass Ottey on the bend usually it’s the other way round. I wonder do tou have merlene’s 21.77 from Monaco 93?

Merlene had no coach from the middle of 1995 (split from her Finance) and it really showed. Such a shame as the 200m one of the strongest in history that year!

@@bodystormI’m assuming that’s when she started working with lindford Christie as her coach? I thought merlene split with her husband long before 95 I know she had some injuries 94/95

@@mattie22no she was still with Stefano at the World Indoors in ‘95 but split by the outdoors. She didn’t work with Linford until going into’96. A Shame as 10.74 was the result. But her 200m suffered after 1994’s injury. She needed to focus that event as was capable of 21.50.
