@jaredmenard7645 I think that if you run deep into the playoffs and reach the world series several times in consecutive seasons your depth and bullpen were sufficient to get the job done, you simply lacked execution rather than being overwhelmed/overmatched by a team who either had more depth or more arms in the pen. Excepting the Yankees juggernaut, who I think literally did have better depth bullpen etc.

Notes: *Much of this series revolved around the NL MVP vote, either Dante Bichette or Greg Maddux, and the merits of Hitters v. Pitchers. In the end, Barry Larkin won, with Bichette, then Maddux in voting. Bill James' Win Shares for 1995 NL: 1. Bonds 36 T-2. Maddux, Larkin 30 4. Biggio 29 T-5. Piazza, R. Sanders 27 T-7. Karros, Sosa 25 9. Caminiti 24 T-10. Bichette, Grace, Gwynn 23 *This was the last game John McSherry called behind the plate. He had a heart attack on Opening Day of 1996, and died. *While at the time, the Rockies were seen as an offensive juggernaut with 4 30 HR bats, they actually had a below average OPS+. *The Rockies actually had the second most valuable starting rotation in the NL behind the Braves. *Colorado's bullpen was historically good with a 90 ERA-. 4 pitchers had an ERA+ under 40. (Leskanic, Holmes, Painter and Ruffin) *Greg Maddux was the first pitcher with 4 consecutive Cy Young in 1995, with a 1.63 ERA. *Maddux threw the last game ever at Mile High Stadium in 1994, a shutout. *Dante Bichette was 2nd in MVP voting behind Barry Larkin with a 130 OPS+ *The home field advantage was still predetermined in 1995, with the Braves having the first two games on the road. *Atlanta would win its only World Series of the 14 straight Division Titles from 1991 to 2005.

Pete Van Wieren and Larry Dierker worked a Braves/Astros game together on "Baseball Network" during the regular season and the network execs liked their pairing so they assigned them to this series, even though Van Wieren was a regular Braves announcer. Yes, the Braves were better than the Twins in 1991...but they did not lose because of Lonnie Smith. Look at the video of Jack Morris and John Smoltz when they talked about that game 7. Morris pointed out that Pendleton actually struck out the pitch before! That game was a toss up that Morris absolutely shined in. I look at game 2 first. Glavine vs.....Tapani? Braves lost that one 3-2 . Another is game 6. Avery vs Erickson...the Braves lost 4-3 in extras, but over and over and over again hitting balls RIGHT TO the twins infielders. Just one of those days I suppose considering that the Braves beat Erickson the first time in Game 3. The Braves were so unfortunate at times. They win those, no game 6 or 7 is needed

This TV structure (even though it was first implemented the year prior) wasn't the exactly best way to win fans back. I have to laugh a little. if it was the right call then why was it called so late? when an infield fly rule is called so late, what are you supposed to do as runners on the basepaths? you don't even know. The 1993 expansion to the NL was done for one reason according to former commissioner Fay Vincent. The reason pure and simple was money. Not to make more money but to pay off a HUIGE judgement against the owners. The owners (can't remember the years) had been found guilty of collusion in refusing to sign free agents for the 1985-87 seasons and as a result the owners were ordered to pay the players(or the MLBAP can't remember which) a rather large sum of money. Instead of paying it out of money they already had, Vincent says the owners decided to expand the National League(they were at 12 teams at the time,AL had 14) and use themes charged the expansion teams to pay off the damages they were ordered to pay due to the collusion findings.
