I miss when Kathy Johnson and Bart Conner used to commentate, they're more positive and aren't afraid to acknowledge whenever non-US gymnasts were underscored

That one armed giant the first Chinese gymnast did is banned now. The commentators were saying the judges wouldn't give her good points for it because they are trying to discourage it. The judges might be mad at them for doing it anyway. Until it's banned tho they should have to give them points for it ya know.
@tonywilson86454 жыл бұрын
@@trumpgoogledmyyahoo7621 it was because they didn't give her credit for the Gaylord, so that caused her to only have a 9.8 start value. Which was stupid but I guess that was another of those dangerous moves they wanted to discourage so that is why the head judge used an excuse (lack of swing) as a potential .2 deduction or more to not give the start value even though it is clear by a 9.5 out of a 9.8 the actual judges did not take .2 for lack of swing although they might have taken something.

I agree it is nice to hear American commentator talk about non Americans being underscored and were 100% correct on the Chinese at this competition. However Bart and Kathy are noted for being biased in favor of Chinese gymnasts in general, so I wouldn't say they are unbiased by nature either.

anyone catch Dominique Moceanu’s father declaring he wanted his first daughter to be a famous gymnast? He had a daughter who was born without legs, and gave her up for adoption, never telling Dominique. Google Jen Bricker, she grew up watching Dominique on tv and wished she was like her, becoming an athlete and an aerialist and gymnast. The sisters were reunited as adults.

Yep. It’s exactly why Dominique got herself emancipated and hasn’t spoken to her parents since. I don’t believe her children have ever met her folks- and wouldn’t blame her if that were the case. Her dad deserves a special place in hell.

Wow Meng Fei was ripped off. At least 4 or 5 tenths underscored across the 3 events they showed. Bars was just stupid, 9.5 for that spectacular routine. She deserved the win. Best bar routine, beam routine and floor routine in the comp.
@mchur0017 жыл бұрын
Meng Fei didn't have 10.0 start values in order to pull out the win. The 1993-1996 era was notorious for gymnasts not to have a 10.0 start value, especially when it came to the event finals when they needed an extra D element.
@sandylenzo55256 жыл бұрын
I agree she was definitely underscored on bars. I would have had either winning or 2nd to Dawes there. However her beam score was fair, her routine was very good but dismount was pretty bad. I think Moceanu was more overscored so she should have beaten her, but Dawes and Boginskaya deserved to score higher. Floor 2nd to Moceanu was about right, Moceanu was overscored as her dance was cheesy but she had much stronger tumbling. Overall hard to say, Meng Fei was clearly stronger than Moceanu on bars, but much weaker on vault so I think Moceanu probably still wins.

TrumpGoogled MyYahoo In her book, she explains how she would have anxiety over saying her last name in public when she was younger because it was hard for people to pronounce.
