Malgré les explications répétées que j'ai obtenues, il m'arrive encore de ne pas maitriser cette signalisation mécanique hors mis le carré et le sémaphore qui ne souffrent d'aucuns doutes

Un avertissement, ça annonce qu'il y a un signal d'arrêt qui est fermé en aval, donc ça dépend de la position de ce dernier.
