If you can view it in 4 X 3 as it was broadcast the picture is some better. Just not enough data for widescreen on videotape at LP.

It remains the only walk-off home run to clinch the College World Series Championship

Still gives me goosebumps when McDonough “LSU wins the college World Series”

It's kind of hard to locate the LSU broadcast of the game with Jim Hawthorne and his color sidekick. I heard the complete LSU broadcast once, but several times of the last few very emotional minutes of the game. It is a classic, and a wonderful finish for the 50th CWS game.

The home plate umpire was so inconsistent this game.

Watching this, I'm curious for why CBS didn't land a portion of the Major League Baseball contract with Fox in 1996. Instead, NBC was the secondary network partner even though they didn't want to show any regular season games. CBS still had Sean McDonough (who of course, called Joe Carter's walk off home run in the 1993 World Series; CBS' final MLB game to date) on their payroll three years after their contract with MLB ended. So their College World Series coverage gave us an inclination of what things could've been like had they continued broadcasting MLB after 1993. Plus, this was during a time period in which CBS was really lacking in a major sports inventory considering that they were still a couple of years away from regaining the NFL contract.

CBS really tried to get Major League Baseball coverage in 1996. But Major League Baseball was very hesitant about CBS. It had only been 3 years since CBS last had MLB coverage. And CBS paid a lot of money to get MLB coverage starting in the 1990 season. And they didn't have a consistent schedule compared to the previous national broadcasters NBC and ABC. You can read all about CBS Major League Baseball coverage at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_on_CBS So that's why Fox got the coverage that CBS really wanted. I bet you if CBS got the MLB in 1996, they would continue to be the over the air broadcaster for Major League Baseball to this day.

Do you have a way to find the 2001 Tennessee vs Miami college World Series game?
