They both recovered and Shane Souter is still racing sidecars in Australia now. Adolf Haani just retired last year

It is crazy that they raced side cars at Mugello. Then again, they are still at the TT. He was very lucky in that crash.

It’s like driving a squirelly GT3 car with absolutely no safety equipment. With your head pointing forward so it’s the first thing to hit the solid concrete wall. Cool sport.

Concrete or armco remain the best option (with some trade-offs between the) for a location like this where it's parallel to a straight. For car racing you can add in SAFER barriers, but because of expense they don't have many use cases outside of speedways. They wouldn't make any difference to motorcycle racing anyway. And tyres or other soft walls aren't appropriate when the wall is parallel to a straight.
