Boy, how I miss those Spurrier days. He may have won only 1 national title, but, our boys dominated most everyoone for 12 years and it was glorious.

The 1996 LSU team is hard to rank. Yes, they were 10-2, but their two losses were complete blowouts, losing to UF 56-13 and Bama 26-0.

They finished with a 1-2 record against teams ranked in the final AP poll with the lone win a defeat over Auburn. They weren’t that good in 1996, just had a very favorable schedule outside of two games, Florida & Alabama. Even their Peach Bowl win was against an unranked Clemson squad in which they escaped (barely) with a win.

@@RevAlSharptonzyeah, that's a nice stat, but, their two losses were to arguably 2 of the top 4 teams in the country. They deserved the respect they earned during that season. They were a solid top ten team. Too bad for them that they had a couple of steam rollers on the schedule.

NCAA football has changed a whole lot in the last 30 years especially how teams are ranked. LSU by far was one of best teams in the country that year. Gators run and gun offense was damn near impossible to stop that year, look at what they did to FSU in the championship game.

@@wfail8656 How do you explain the 26-0 loss to Alabama? They weren’t the powerhouse Florida was, with a loss to Mississippi State and a near loss to Auburn.

@@petepyeatt6909 it’s football and sometimes teams match up great against others. Ranking a team based off the point differential in there losses. That’s like saying FSU wasn’t as good a team as Florida that year strictly based off the blowout loss they suffered to the Florida Gators at the end of the season which turned out to be the Gators first championship. 56-21. FSU spanked us in the regular season and I to this day believe Spurrier out coached Bowden in the championship game. We had Wuerfell in shotgun all game unlike the regular season. That’s a prime example of explaining losses, sometimes teams don’t show up on game day and sometimes they just get out coached.

I think Spurrier was 2 and 1 vs Saban and 5-2 vs Dabo. Quite the coach.

Cam newton in 2010 had 30 touchdown passes and 20 touchdown rushing Danny Wuerffe in 1996 had 39 touchdown passes and 2 rushing Tim tebow in 2007 had 32 touchdown passes and 22 touchdowns rushing Tim 55 total in 2007 Cam had 50 total on 2010 Danny had 41 total in 1996 These are the best 3 heisman trophy winners of all time.55 touchdowns in a single season may be the best ever

Danny played with Fred Taylor, so the priority wasn't rushing TDs for him.

Mike Mayock was one of the color commentators in this game. Mayock's passion and attention to detail was alive and well in this game in 1996 and it's the same way 21 years later.
