1997-2004 Dodge Dakota Headlight and Taillight Installation and Upgrade / Links in Description

Upgrading the headlights and taillights on your 2nd gen Dakota or Durango is easy and can be a cheap way to make your truck look the best it can. We replace our factory stock lights for some LED ones in the rear, and some clear ones without the amber turn signals in the front. We also replace our third brake light for one that matches the new set. I show you start to finish how to do this yourself and cover all steps of install and replacement.

I personally like the stock look. other than the milky headlights. They look oxidized and bad. I will upgrade to LED all around tho.

I'm the same way. I'll install a clear new set of stock housings, and upgrade to led .

I installed ember light bulbs for the turn signals and now I have no turn signals. Could it be the wrong size bulb?

Sounds like maybe they weren't turn signal bulbs. I think you've got the wrong bulb size or type

but what really matters, is how well they throw light. i have aftermarkets, and they are terrible. there was no thought put into the internals of the light and how they project that light down the road. they were just a fancier-LOOKING headlight.

Which bulb is for turn signal? the one closest to the radiator? I think 1997-2000 Dakotas have only one bulb for turn signal while the 2001-2004 have two turn signal bulbs that flash (both the bulb closest to the radiator and the middle bulb).

Both bulbs on the bottom are turn signals.

What about rain water seeping into the tail light and onto the wiring/fan resister?? Like it doesn’t sit 100% flush so how do I protect from rain ?

Everything has always been fine for me, and I romp these through mud holes pretty regularly. Never had a problem. But I have never power washed them either. I'd probably stay away from that

Did you have to install a switch for the cargo light function? My 97 doesnt have a factory cargo light.

Just turning the dash light brightness up all the way triggers it on mine

Why not get an LED Housing, and put in LED bulbs?

The led bulbs will give you a hyper blink without resistors and I wanted this to be simple

@@bikesandbangs hmm ok that’s good to know also with the truck being as lifted as it is with those 35s on it have you noticed any substantial difference in turning or how it rides compared to stock?

Cranking the torsion bars in the front for lift stiffens the ride a bit, it's noticable, but the body lift doesn't effect ride quality, and then the 35's just float over everything, so overall ride quality is actually really good when you do this correctly
