1997-2004 Ford F150 Cabin Air Filter

Just checked my 2003 F150, and same thing. I have owned this truck 20 years now, did many oil changes myself and had many oil changes done by Jiffy Lube. What pisses me off is, those little thieving rats brought a filthy cabin air filter to the waiting room, dusty, leaves, mold...asked if I wanted a new one, which I gladly paid for so I didn't have to do it. I knew better than to trust a shop but they were strict about customers walking through the shop. I got taken many times on this. Probably didn't even change the oil filter. They said 99 doesn't have one I pulled a disgusting old filter out of mine just now in 2024 and completely appalled by how shitty it is I was thinking I didn't have one for a long time until I reached up in there and watched this video step by step like you said. Awesome video! FYI, to all the commenters wondering why in the heck Ford designed it this way: Cabin air filter capability was a (rare) option on F150's way back then. This is a conversion method to install a cabin air filter in a NON-OPTIONED vehicle, so you'll have to cut out the blank in the housing. Also, you won't have the "cap" for the air filter, but as this fellow says, you don't need it to keep the filter secured. Friction is your friend.

Did mine 2 years ago. I think Ford start with the frame, and the 1st part they put on is a heater core, and everything else gets bolted on around it. There is zero reason why it cant be placed inside a removable ABS housing under the dash.

my daughter's 2009 toyota corolla is SO MUCH easier than this! You just have to go behind the glove box and it easily pops out. I have a 1998 f150 and I was going to do this and found your video! Glad I found out about this!!!!

I felt like there had to be some type of filter. A guy that I deal with at the Ford Dealer Parts Dept did some digging and found me a Part#. I had the Parts Manager at Advance Auto to cross the Part#.

Thanks for the video just bought a used my oscillating tool and worked perfect only had to buy a 3/8 oscillating blade for the corners and cut it out in less than 1hour thanks again for the video 🙏

I got an 03 and just recently got the ac fixed, only to find it's blowing its ass off but barely anything at the vents. Can't believe you have to cut the filter out. Can't wait to do this in the am. It's too damn hot!!!

Liked your video, but something i dont think many people are aware of is the early 1999 F350 is totally different under the dash, among some other things. Mine is a one owner (inherited from my dad in 08) F350 crewcab dully, 7.3, auto w/tow package, 95,000 original miles. Produce in 08/98. It has no provision for a cabin air filter. This doesn't surprise me. They also have a different turbo compressor wheel, it's better than the later ones.

I also took the blower motor off because of lack of airflow put my phone up the hole took a picture of a/c condenser coil plugged up looks like black potting soil had to get a good tarp put it on the floor use a/c coil cleaner spray that than after 10 minutes use a garden hose to rinse off got the airflow to return without spending 2 k remove the whole dash

Hey there, I just cut mine out as well. The amount of stuff that was caked in there and fell out was insane! I used a skinny dryer lent thing to reach up in there and get a lot of the small leaves and dirty soil looking stuff out. I’m at the auto parts store now buying a filter but how do I get the whole thing out like you did and clean it? There was no filter in mine either so all that was stuck to the coil looking thing. My ac doesn’t work at the moment but everytime I turn on the air or vents all this dirt and leaves would blow out. I assume that’s the reason….?

A housing which accepted a filter was an option, at least there was a part number for it. I tried to buy one for my '02 when I still had it, but was told it was NLA.

I would call the local Ford Dealer Parts Department and give them the last (8) of the Vin#. Chances are they will not have one due to the year. But they maybe able to provide that information for you.

If you look in that area and do not see a Cabin Air Clean Cover. And you have looked all over to find a Air Filter Cover. That is a indication that you will need to do the same thing.

Over the years, I've seen so many ridiculously stupid things the designers have done in vehicles. As a 63 yr old grandmother who has tried to do a lot of the work on easier things, I'm no mechanic, but they make it so damn hard. I took my van to get new headlights put in because the others were so degraded, God knows we just had to have crap plastic instead of glass, they had to take part of the front off to replace them

Look underneath your Glovebox near the Heater Core. If you do not see a Filter type Door. Chances are you have no Filter.

I just bought a 2002 ford f150 with 315000 miles on it for $1000 and it runs great but there is a power steering fluid leak and I have no idea how to go about it. Do you have any ideas as to where I can start befroe I just say fuck it and pay a lot at the mechanic shop

I haven't heard or seen any power steering issue with these vehicles. It may just be a power steering hose. Notice the location of fluid on the ground and search up from there.

Cabin air filter in a pickup is for people who dont actually work. I would be replacing that junk every 3 weeks, I would throw it out and never put it back.

You can either clog up the evaporator or clog up a filter. One is easy to change, the other not so much.

And Ford wonders why everyone is Going towards the Tundra!! There engineers must have been on Crack at the turn of the Century.. So many of these stupid designs that really cheapened the F150's... 😢
