I don't care about monetary value on any level whatsoever. Cards are a sunken cost from one's entertainment budget. The only reason card companies pull in money hand over fist is ppl don not understand this basic point, and chase, which is physiological gambling.

@@Fultoncards Just remember my friend "Its a hobby for those, and an investment for others." Over 35 years Ive collected. And a cardinal rule of thumb was to sale your "Triples and Doubles" put sets together and resale for whole sale prices. Store the Best condition cards in your private stock and Save/Trade/Collect/Sale You have many dbles and trples auto's that can make a fair sale. W/ a small prophit. Maybe not much depending on players value. But minus the names and focus on the minimal percentage as a whole commodity (47) Auto's x $5's your looking at a fair increase. How much was that box of 97-98 pinnacle? I know pinnacle isnt a top brand. But its those autos that makes a huge difference. If they stop production and is never to redistribute anymore cards. 30-50 years from now it'd become a rarity like the video you posted up. By than your 47 autos will increase value by a fair increase only do to most of those players will either be dead or elected into hall of fame. (Fyi., I dont know shit about hockey)..jaja But for the amount of Baseball /Football cards i have that are no big name autos. I see an investment "payable on death". Thanks for responding, and keep is tuned in. Ps... My hand tremble to when i see money in a hot box!..😀🇺🇸

Well, a discussion best had over a beer! I don't argue that the card companies, Beckett, retailers, and established stores and connoisseurs can eek out profit. But this new golden age is no different than the 1990s. UD printed bills, because cards were valued at $200 which are now $1 today due to print runs (Jagr, Lindros, Brodeur). UD's sales are up considerably. How is this possible. New gimmickry the world over, whereby numbered cards across brands are printed in the thousands. Graded Young Guns exist in the thousands. The biggest issue are the stated odds (I have a math degree, for what it's worth; I break these things down from a consumer advocacy standpoint) do not justify price points. Precisely the opposite. But social media creates a hyperinflation, whereby prices in fact drop over time. New technology supplants old, and new collectors fixate solely on the talent du-jour. On average, ppl sink indefensible amounts of money, due to the physiological endorphin rush of chasing hits that mathematically do not exist, e.g. UD Ice #/99 in the entire population. Instead every average break only includes #/1,299. So, yes that one person's card's may increase in value. But hundreds of thousands drop $100 on a box that quarters upon break. Then they try to resell, assuming cards are an investment. They are not. Investments are an investment. If you buy real estate in NYC or Toronto - or even Montreal - it increases in value 10%-15% year-on-year. Simply tying your money to the S&P after a pullback or recession guarantees such capital gains. With those gains, you can buy cards, and worry only about sentimental attachment. It's a hobby! In fact, more ambition at work will enable you to target a McDavid RC with 100% certainty on eBay, solely for sentimental value. So why dink around in cards. People have done it every generation and always lost on average. Those who don't have a methodology, and are on the right side of the math, like a professional poker player, or better yet solid investor. What percentage of poker players win consistently? Even professionals go broke for years before winning consistently; ask Daniel Negreanu. The only reason 1930s cards have value (and even 1980s sets are now only sold for $100) is those cards are inherently and uniquely rare, as the players are deceased and most cards were destroyed. They are from before collecting was a vocation, or the sport was entrenched. Or condition was a thing. Today, McDavid may sign an auto worth $100. You can imprint #/50 on it. But he will be alive for the next 50 years! How many #/50 autos will he sign, across all UD products? See the checklists and checklists. And he's McDavid. Will anyone care about Carter Hart - or Vasilevskiy even after the Vezina - if he plays in a lesser hockey market and never wins a Cup? Even if he does. Nico Hischier's Young Gun was worth $100 initially. He was a first overall pick. Now, you can get it for $15. That's an 85% loss. Yes, it may go up in value. But, it's pennies compared to capital gains, or daily work. If your daily work is cards, well I would hope you make a profit. But there are easier, much more sure and lucrative jobs.

@@Fultoncards Wow! That was alot to read!...jaja! I definitely can agree with most of the subject pertaining to the huge decrease on value stand point. And as before i did state i wasnt to savvy with the hockey market. Although, it did trickle down in all sports in the hay days of the late 80's 90's and even as early 2000's. So you do make a valuble point. Thanks for the basic knowledge on hockey btw., never thought id get schooled on hockey!...jaja! Just became a fan a year ago for my Vegas Golden knights and been to 3 games already. Amazing on what they accomplished in 2 seasons. Such great athletes in a brutal sport i can now respect. The names of most of the players are always to hard to remember for me. So thats probably one of the little reasons why i never got into the hobby. Also let me know your favourite team, as I often throw in extra cards or lots. Note: all the blue autos happen to be RCs, incl. Samsonov, Axelsson, Phillips, Dave Scatchard. I didn't include player stats in this vid. It's time consuming, and I did not want to deter from the visual of so many autos. Tkachuk! 3 Lehtinens in a row! A Samsonov RC auto! Damphousse die cut auto! That is the most insane box I have ever seen! In terms of "hit" style boxes, the first few years of Be a Player have LONG been a dream of mine. While the first year would be the one I long dreamed of, but this one was a close second..... for the Series B with the Samsonov RC, and the early/second year Joe Thornton autos. In terms of BAP autos, this one was a really neat set. I hope to get one of the prismatics one day, they are super cool looking, an d they fulfill my love of super shiny cards. I remember when I first saw this set the prismatics I wanted the most would have been the Thornton and Samsonov RC, but there's a lot of other really cool ones in the set. Sabres representation is REALLY REALLY good. Mike Peca and Steve Shields RC would probably be the highlights, but Burridge, Grosek, Smehlik, Rasmussen, Curtis Brown, Holzinger, and McKee are all in this set! Along with some of the tougher ones like Tkachuk of course, though I remember wanting the Gary Roberts and Khabibulin. This was a fun set, and that was a really fun box! =)
