That's exactly the same style CAI that my 98 GT came with when I got it, n yeah that's the best style to have, especially in a hot state like Florida. About your tach issue, I see what your talking about now having nothing to do with the way it runs. I've never seen that before. Maybe the car sat a while? The only advice I can think of is to take the cluster out, disassemble it n spray some of that electronics repair spray into tach inside portion, but be extremely careful about it.

Yeah I've suspected it's the tach itself. The car may have sat for a while, maybe with the top down even. I had to wire up the car because I wanted to install a bazooka sub in the trunk along with upgrading the 4 speakers to Alpines which Involved taking apart the whole back seat including the panels. Found much dirt & leaves back there. Under the seat, panels, boot and carpet. May of belonged to a trailer park granny lol

You have a loose ground. My 98gt did the same. Tightening my negative battery terminal fixed the problem. My 2 cents

It only seems to do this on hot / humid days after first startup of the day. The tech itself stutters somewhat between 1000-3500 rpm and after some driving, it smooths out. Pretty sure the battery terminals are tight as I worked on then after I installed a bazooka sub in the the trunk

W/O i tune id say a CAI will give you bout 7-10hp max. With tune maybe 20-25 ish

Not bad but I don't have full coverage as its an old cheap car. 6 months is about $390 for me and it has stayed the same for the most part vs my old 99 SL500 which was once an $80k car, 01 C240, C230 Kompressor, 98 Volvo s90. If anything my old 06 Accord coupe was most expensive at $450, all the other cars were under $400 They're easy to fix, reparations are inexpensive, and they're reliable or at least the V8 versions are. Just gotta buy home clean as most are beat to crap or heavily modified to the point they're junk. Mine is a one owner driven by some granny

Just like the V8, very little. It'll just mostly create more grunt under the bonnet + you'll have a washable filter that you'll never have to replace for years. If there is a HP bump, maybe 1-2HP. You'll see more of a power increase from a CAI if you also invest in a larger diameter throttle body

Idk about that, if it has the dual air filters then I don't think it will make much of a difference as its plenty breathable as/is.. Maybe a pair of k&n filters within the stock air box will suffice

+DST RV ahhhh well in that case go for it! In 2000-2001 MB started using a dual filter setup were it has two separate intakes. My dad's 99 C43 AMG and my old SL500 used dual filters
