Silver Charm is still awesome. He is retired and currently residing at the great "Old Friends" farm in Georgetown, Kentucky. You can actually go meet him and many other great racers of the past there. It's a phenomenal place to visit.

I've seen many many thoroughbreds in person during my time but Silver Charm remains my personal favorite. Anybody running against him knew they were in for a fight to the wire. That's why McCarron ran Touch Gold nearly on the grand stand side of the track in the Belmont that year--didn't want to get into a fight with Silver Charm. McCarron knew he couldn't beat him eyeball to eyeball.

This was no doubt the best Kentucky Derby ever. The scene was perfect too. Overcast but a fast track. It was pretty cool.

His 99 Derby stretch drive is great! The 94 Derby stretch drive was salvaged by Dave. The 96 Belmont stretch drive! Hell even his last ABC Derby in 2000 Fusaichi Pegasus gives me goosebumps!

Silver Charm was the very first horse that I bet on and won. Bless his 💜 he is almost 29 years old and stands at a retirement farm for thoroughbreds near Lexington. He is the oldest living Kentucky Derby winner 2:26 . I have visited him in the last year or so. He has four teeth and his coat is white as snow-still sweet as can be. What a fabulous horse he is. If you get a chance you should go visit him at Old Friends retirement farm in Georgetown, Kentucky.

@@bnegs521Good horse but McCarron admitted he kept Gold away from Charm by nearly running in the grandstand section. I outta know, I was at that Belmont hoping and expecting to see a Triple Crown champion. I was on the rail that day. Thought I was going to get stampeded

@@bnegs521 as a jockey I wouldn’t have admitted ‘avoiding’ going head to head with a champion. If McCarron thought Gold was worth his salt he would’ve gone up against Charm. Instead people and I on the rail had to take two steps back to avoid getting kickback. After McCarron’s interview that’s when I knew Gold wasn’t as good as people thought he was. Yeah Charm got beat but Charm got the Derby, Preakness, Dubai World Cup and Gold got what? What? What? The Belmont and someone’s beer and program?

Free House (affectionately known as “Freebie”) always gave it 110%. He might have been the most playful and mischievous horse I've ever met. First saw him at Santa Anita (G1) and San Felipe (G1), where he won both races and bested Silver Charm. He was California horse of the year in 1997 and 1998. Sadly, he died in 2004 after falling over and striking his head during a routine bath-just a devastating way to lose a beloved champion.

Alex Solis was a second rate jock and he cost Captain Bodgit the race by whipping him right handed in the stretch causing Bodgit to steer right into Silver Charm and costing Captain the race. Solis NEVER won a Triple Crown race and there is a good reason for that.

In school, (I live in Lexington btw) my Teacher put all of the Horse's names in a bucket and whoever chose the Derby winner would end up getting $50 dollars to spend at the Book Fair. Well...needless to say...SILVER CHARM!!! 🥈 I still have my Garfield books that I was able to get from the Book Fair! Man...He was SO CLOSE to being a Triple Crown winner...Touch Gold finally got him in the Belmont though sadly...My Family and I were rooting for him so hard! 🏇🥲
