Wasim was like the backbone of Pakistan's despite having quality of other bowlers.Wasim didnt play in this match, Pak conceded over 280, he dint play against India in the same series, india chased down over 315 target. You can search it on youtube. He didnt play against India in the semifinal, India score over 280, similarly you can search on youtube newzealand scoring over 280 in 97/98. This thing I observed in many matches thtough the chronicles of history.

Remember that golden era. I was searching the tv channel turnning our antena every where pictures weren't clear and listening the radio with same time. Every time I watch these matches I realise what a batsman Aravinda de Silva was. Considering most of his career he did not have the opportunity to play professional cricket, and he played for a lesser team. Technique, elegance, talent, and the gentleman he was on the field and off the field. I don't think Sri Lanka will ever find another of that class for a fair while. If he had the opportunities some of the present days players have, I am sure he would have made 30000+ runs in each form. It was his solidarity, and reliability that allowed Sri Lanka to experiment with Jayasuriya and Kaluwitharana. I am not saying Jayasuriya, Kaluwitharana or others weren't great. But watching how Aravinda changes the grip constantly, change the angles and where he stands in the crease - it is absolutely marvellous.
