The epic Esa Tikkanen blast that won it in OT. He was the only one who knew it went it at first as everyone else thought it hit the crossbar. But there was a little different sound as it hit the camera set up in the net & the clunk also jarred the camera that little bit where on replay you could see the puck make contact with it and that’s how they determined it was in. Tikk also won it in OT in Game 5 for the series game winner. Clutch player

Talk about nostalgia. I remember being a kid and loving the Gerry Cosby CCM authentic jerseys. I finally saved up enough money to buy one this season and they switched over to Starter brand and I was so pissed lol

I remember watching this game and when Tikkanen ripped it and I heard a clunk instead of a ping, I quickly thought that puck might have gone in & out quick, because of the different sound. When the first replay showed the camera lense going from dry to wet, I already knew the Rangers won the game.

In every 1997 Ranger playoff series they would be totally out played and lose Games 1, then come back with a great effort and win Games 2 all on the road. Unfortunetly the Philly ECF Series didn't go the Blueshirts way.

In my opinion, I think the winner of the Avalanche/Red Wings series would still win the Stanley Cup in 1997 regardless who came out of the East.

@@joesakic91 against Colorado that year they beat them 5 - 2 @ Colorado and tied 3 - 3 @ the Garden . Against Detroit they lost 3 - 0 @ the Joe Louis and then a week later beat them 3 - 1 @ the Garden . Yes those are just regular season results and the regular season doesn’t always translate to the playoffs. But watching the Rangers play that season they matched up better against more skilled oriented teams as opposed to more physically oriented teams . Even against Philly in the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Finals the Rangers narrowly lost that series despite the optics in losing in 5 games . The difference in games the Rangers lost against Philly being a difference in only one goal , either leading the score for large portions of time in minutes or score drawn level , and if my memory serves me then one or two of those losses by a difference of only a goal coming in OT . I remember that series well and the Rangers flubbed a good portion of their chances. Frustrating really . But I would go as far as saying that if they got by Philly then I think they would’ve matched up MUCH better against Colorado or Detroit than they did against Philly had they advanced. Would have been very interesting seeing a Rangers Detroit Orginal 6 Stanley Cup Finals which would have been something the league hadn’t seen since the 1950 SCF where the Rangers lost in 7 games to Detroit in OT . Ironically Rangers home fans didn’t even get to see any games at the Garden for the Final as the circus was in town ( lunacy ) and the circus taking in more revenue apparently took precedent . Um , who organized the schedule in these days so that maybe the Garden could have hosted both ? Thus they had to play all their home games at Toronto Maple Leafs Garden as I believe that the owners of Madison Square Garden and Toronto Maple Leafs Garden were the same people. Surely the same architect.

1:39:09 That's a goal. Once Esa Tikkannen's rocket slapper hit the camera inside the net, the water bottle at the top of the net jarred a bit. It's a good goal.

Question about that Mellanby penalty in OT. He was outside the crease and jockeying for position. He pushed Leetch who went into Richter and Richter never had a chance to make a save. However doesn't Mellanby have a gripe considering he didn't personally touch Richter at all and at worst it should be no goal but no penalty. Isn't this on Leetch who should've kept Mellanby away from Richter?

This has been driving me crazy for more than two decades and by chance you uploaded this hours after I was talking to someone about it. I came across both this video and the part of the video by complete chance so I'm hoping this is finally divine intervention to answer this. at the 32:55 mark, on the shot of Gretzky on the bench, there's a song that starts playing in the arena. I used to hear it at games all the time in the 90s and never found out what it was. Every now and then it pops into my head and I have no idea what the lyrics are so it's impossible to figure it out. Does ANYONE know what that music/song is?
@akapper57
@akapper57 3 жыл бұрын
@Joe Reiter: I don't know what it is. It sounds like a song fragment repeated over & over again, then sped up, and not the whole song. At first I thought it was an old early 1970s song from a British group called Slade called "C'mon feel the noise", but after replaying the clip I no longer think so.

@@akapper57 Definitely not Slade. Definitely something from the 70s. I feel like I've heard it elsewhere but damned if I can recall. I've tried describing it to multiple people over the years and humming it into soundhound and gotten nowhere. I can't fail now, this is divine intervention!!!

It really amazes me Gretzky was able to score TWO hat tricks and 10 goals plus 10 assists in those playoffs, playing with his line mates on that team. Even more shocking is how he scored 97 points on that team in the regular season at age 36.
